weaning off of beta blockers

Hi all, Has any one had any side effects when weaning down from b/b? Feeling better but have increased dizziness in the late evening. I take my 12.5 atenolol in the early am. Also have sob and slight heart pounding. Have been weaning down from .25 for almost 3 weeks.. Thanks for your feed back.....

hi i have spoken to you before about my sideaffects iam down to 25mg a day i was on 100mg . iam finding it hard to come off that last 25 i know it sounds silly but like you i have had the shakes i cant sleep.dizziness and dry mouth. from personal experience i can tell you they are very addictive and the atentol i think is one of the worst. i had to come off mine as i no longer needed them when i had my pm and ablation but its easier said than done. ive come off them before but i was only on 50mg but even then i had to come off them over 6 weeks and shave a little bit off the tablet at a time..your doing better than me because iam dreading coming down to to 15 or even 10 at the minute when things are ok thats fine but if you have other things going on in your life its your leaning post . well keep in informed on how you do good luck with it

B/B weaning

Thanks for the comments guys. There is no question that I feel 100% better on a lesser dose. The correct dose (if any) can only be found by weaning down until there is some a-fib event. I was prescribed 50mg which was way too much for my system. If there is an event I will take the 12.5 dose to correct. So far with extended exercise I am ok................B/p has been excellent and moods are better. One thing I would like to check on is my h/r does not exceed 125bpm and that keeps me winded during a longer run or tennis. Tech was supposed to increase the rate to 150 but I guess she didn't. New doc, echo, tech next week. What I am finding out is there is no way of knowing how strong a b/b you need with out some trial and error.
the best way for me to wean was 1/2 am 1/2 pm than when ready just 1/2 late night. You should review any changes with your doc.
I think part of what has helped is i also take an ace inhibitor which does not have any side effects at all for me.
B/B are definitely a bear to wean off of but in my case is worth it

Question?

I have been told that we can't become addicted to atenolol, personally, i think that's wrong but who am I? My doctor tried to take me off of atenalol but was unable to. He had to leave me on a minimal dosage because I developed something like caffeine jitters. I eventually had all my medications changed out but I was put on a different BB. It's not often a doctor will take you off of BBs is there a reason you were given that would want to take you off of it?
