I'm New, heart feels like it's in my throat...

My pacemaker was installed 12 days ago. Overall it's been a good experience, but I'm feeling like my heart is beating in my throat this afternoon. Similar to my first pacer check when they ramped up the beats to 90. But my pulse says it's running at 60 bpm.

The other thing that has been bothering me is that sometimes it hurts to breath deep, like a case of indigestion.

Have others had these kind of feelings?

I am a runner, and wonder if these symptoms are going to be problems for my exercise when I start back up in a few weeks.

Hi WRF and welcome.

the beating feeling in your throat has been brought up here before so if you use the SEARCH feature up in the upper right hand corner, you will discover a wealth of information. very helpful spot.

have you gotten a chance to discuss all of this with your primary care doctor or your cardiologist? because sometimes all that needs to be done is to have your pacemaker's settings "tweaked".

again, the best suggestion I can give is to talk to your doctor about this...and I'd ask for a chest Xray if you are still having difficulty deep breathing.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I am also a runner and had a new pacemaker put in.. I occasionally feel the heart in the throat thing but it might be that your pacemaker is set too fast.. I am not a good one to complain to my doctor but in this case it sounds like a good idea.. Sometimes they need tweaking.. Mine just got tweaker from 60 to 50 beats per minute and it is much better.

Were you put on strong antibiotics? I was put on Vancomycin, and it made me feel like I lost half of my lung capacity. Don't know if I lost that much, but it's just a subjective feeling.

It got OK after about a week or 2.

Went in for another surgery Tuesday, and more Vancomycin, and feel the same way. Not really short of breath, just feel like I can't inhale and exhale as deeply as normal.

Good luck!

Got those daily

I get those heart beat in the throat feeling everyday since my pacer went into the ERI mode. I don't believed it is harmful but can be uncomfortable. In my case, it is the pacer pacing and when I took my pulse, I can feel a beat missing, It is weired but interesting thing to know about our pacers.

It will get better

When i first had my PM installed I could feel my heart beat all the time. This is because you are used to having a different heartrate for so long that it is almost a shock to your body because you now have a different rate. It just takes time getting used to and eventually you will.

You know you're wired when...

You name your daughter “Synchronicity”.
