I got my first pacemaker implant five weeks ago but haven't been out and about because of complications, such as a punctured lung (with painful chest tube) that took two weeks to heal, followed by pneumonia, pleurisy, etc. Today I went to a department store and was looking at clothes on a rack. As I leaned in for a closer look, sparks started flying around from the clothing. It reminded me of a bunch of sparklers on the 4th of July. When I backed off, the sparks disappeared. What was that all about?

Very common in Arizona unless the monsoon is raising the humidity. Synthetic clothing will generate a lot of static charge when you move it. Sometimes it is strong enough to feel a faint shock.

Did any of the clothes have an anti-theft clip on them? I don't know if those things have a magnetic within the clip. Some stores have a disc near the cash register, I think reads the code on items may be magnetic????

I've seen the sparks before. It might have been static electricity in the air. When that happens it can be very visible and bright!
I don't think it was from your pacemaker however, did you feel ok after the event? If it happens again I sure would call my Dr. and get it checked out. Stray electricity always should be checked out in my opinion.
Good luck and welcome.... :-)
