update

Hello everyone I am not new here just have not been on in a long long time. Anyway, I been doing the run-around lately about my pm. I was just hospitalized due to bad ekg's and chest pains. The doc told me one of my ablated signals is still making my heart beat and causing problems. Doc said they were going to ablate me again then the nurse came in and let me go just like that out of nowhere. So, for a while I have been having it rough with pains and arrhythmia. I am on the cardizem which was raised to 180mg but I think it makes things worse. My heart pounds after taking it for hours. Didn't know if this might happen to anyone on here or not. I am getting aggravated and finding it hard to sleep at night with all the crazy pounding and such. Just thought I would update myself and see whats going on around here lately.

Cardizem

Hello You Ain't Crazy,

I can't say if Cadizem is the cause of your problem or not, but I'll share my experience with you. Many years ago (1985) I had 30mg/day Cardizem prescribed for slight chest pain. Worked fine.

Some months later more doctors got involved as my problems increased they increased the Cardizem to 120mg/day. I complained and it was increased again. This continued until was taking two 60 mg tablets (120/mg) Cardizem 4 times a day. By then I was not much more than a zombie. Almost continuous palpatations and physical activity was nonexistant. The doctors said there was nothing more they could do and I woud just have to live with what I had.

While I was supposed to be taking 120mg at 6 hour intervals I was taking the last dose each day between 10 and 11 PM. I got the next dose about 6 to 6:30 in the morning. One day it dawned on me that when I got up in each morning I felt better, not good but better and the plapatations were fewer. Then about 3 to 4 hours after the first dose it was back to lots of palpatations and simply feeling like hell.

I thought it was the Cardizem causing the problem, but I knew I could not just stop a heart medication suddenly so I devised me a withdrawal plan. I started dropping 60mg periodically and over the following 3 to 6 months I went from 480mg a day to 60mg/day. By then I felt pretty near normal as the irregular heart beat was almost totally gone. I waited another year or so before I told my doctor what I had done and he said absolutely nothing, I mean nothing.

In the years since then I have had occasion to study Cardizem and all the things it can do, both good and bad. For some people Cardizem or just the incorrect dose can every bad as it was in my case. Now I still take cardizem but today I take one 120mg long acting capsule each day and it controls my blood pressure and if it is responsible for any of my arrhythmia it is very little.

Like Is said, this is my expedience. Take a look and see if any of it fits what is happening to and if so talk to your doctor.

Good luck,

Smitty

cardizem and treatment

I will say my bp is usually pretty good with the cardizem. I know what my problem is the docs said they did, but getting it done is another story. The nurse said it was risky for me to get ablated again but they don't live like I do either. Last time I had to be shocked and intubated I guess they don't want that happening again. But again dead or ablated I would be better off. I am not scared I wish they wasn''t and would go ahead and ablate me.
