Swelling

Hi Coachd.

The swelling going down is different for each person and depending on where your pacemaker or ICD was placed. Mine went down in about 3 weeks. I was more concerned about not moving my arm too much the first several weeks! Try some ice wrapped in a towel, that might help. Keep an eye on it and check with your doctor in a few days.

How long are you post op? It should start to go down after the first few days. It can take 4-6 weeks to heal completely, some take longer. If it's hot or has red streaks, go back to the dr.

For the first few weeks, follow Pookie's advice for ice. If it's been more than 6 weeks, it could be fluid. In that case, try a heating pad on low a few times a day until it's gone.

Franks Rule

I call it Franks Rule for any surgery. It takes about the same length of time to heal as when you cut your finger. While the finger cut is not as serious as the implant surgery, your body has a chemical response to an injury that takes about the same time for all injuries unless you pick up an infection.

For me this is about 3 weeks for complete healing. Anything longer than this and I have an infection or am irritating it.

Also, some of us have a issue because of placement were a bra strap would be and that can cause irritation and swelling. Pain also. I still have some swelling 6 wks or so after. Everyone body reacts differently. Just check for any s/s of infection. take care and good luck. hope you feel better soon. patty
