Going back out on the street tomorrow finally after almost 4 months after triple bypass in June and ICD last month. Could of retired but only at 50% and there aint a whole lotta jobs out there right now to make up the difference. Plus I dont feel like retiring just yet. Hey Mad Trapper,
I was a street cop for half of my career, spending the last 12 in an office running computer networks. Had a pacer implanted 2 years ago. Everyone told me that I needed to retire, so I submitted the paperwork. Both the doctor and occupational therapist told me that I was not disabled, but could no longer work as a police officer. The explanation was that, if you got into a physical altercation, the leads could be pulled loose and cause the pacer to stop functioning and possibly lead to a heart attack. So, I took the 60% tax free disability and went to work teaching in the computer field. I enjoy the new job, but miss the sense of control that comes with law enforcement. I retired in March, so it hasn't been a year yet. I didn't feel like retiring either, but the reality of my limitations as well as the time I spend with my grandchildren helped make my decision. BTW, I just turned 54.

50/65

At least you get 60. I get 50, 65 if its line of duty. So I either wait to mix it up with some scumbag and die or get 65%, or pack it in for 50% now. Not an easy decision. Im more worried about putting one of my partners safety in jepoardy. Didnt think Id have to maake this decision at 41.

You know you're wired when...

You play MP3 files on your pacer.
