Strong extra beats at bedtime

Hi,

Does anyone out there experience extra beats at bedtime? They last about a minute and I have them every evening. I believe my natural pacing and the PM pacing are overlaping at rest. Anyone?

I just had my pacemaker checked and asked about the extra beats in the evening. She then did something to the computer testing my pacemaker and asked if it felt like this. It was exactly what I was feeling at night. She said the pacemaker is programmed to check the integrity of the pacemaker that creates the feeling of extra beats.

PVC's

Hello-
I am not paced but ever since I received my ICD I have strong thumps in my chest from time to time. My device rep said that they are PVC's (Premature Ventricular Contractions) So basically the heart contracts before the ventricle is filled with blood causing the "thump". I don't have 2 leads yet but he said when I do they can track the PVC's.
Cheers-

i get them sometimes, and they are very strong, thumping beats. It seems on days that I exercise hard, and have a few too many beers, or a late cup of coffee it can cause them. I had a doctor tell me that alcohol and coffee are a bad mix and can do strange things.

Do you drink heavily at times? When I had the dates of my disrhythmnias checked at the doctors, the dates such as Dec 31, and my birthday where I partied a little too much, it for sure effected things. You may want to start a log in your daytime, and log your exercise, drinking, and other habits, and compare it to the dates you have disrhythmias when you get a check up.

Good luck, and happy pacing...

To think on...

There are a number of possibilities for why you are having the extra or harder thumps when you lay down. If you are seriously concerned about them, then maybe talk with your doctor about them and see about getting monitored or have your device interrogated.

I have a increased heart rate and onset of PVCs everytime I lay down. Some days are worse than others. There are a number of attributing factors such as monthly things, diet, restedness. It doesn't help that once we become aware of the abnormality of our heart problems, we become hypersensitive to everything our heart is doing. It's like when you get work done on your car because you heard a noise and when you get the car back there a bunch of new noises. They were always there before, you just weren't hearing them.

You are not a used car, and have not depreciated just because you have walked out of the hospital with a PM ~grinning~

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!
