I would say you have no choice but to trust the doctor. However, if you will be getting your follow up in the States, I would suggest that you select a doctor and ask him which brand (there are 4 or 5, at least, different brands) you shoud request. Many doctors are not set up to do checkups on multiple brands of pacemakers, so I think this is a case where a little preplanning would be in order.

Good advice

Bill has given you good advice. Here in the US we don't have a choice; it depends on the EP implanting, the hospital where it is done and which brand/brands are stocked in their central supply. Most physicians become very familiar with the brand/brands they prefer. It also has to do with which cardiac device companies have "relationships" with the physicians. I do recall a man who lived in India and had a PM implanted that was a brand that we were not familiar with in this country. You might make some phone calls before you leave for India. Good luck and God bless.

Didn't realize that you've decided to go to India.....wish you the best of luck and hope that all goes well.

You might want to call a few of the companies who make pacemakers and see if they're the same models used in the US or wherever you'll be getting your follow-up care.

I think most models are used world wide, due to international standards.

People with pacemakers travel everywhere these days, must be able to get help overseas.

Please let us know how it went, thank Heavens for the internet!

Best wishes,

you DO have a choice

Be sure that the pacer you get in India is from one of the 5 pacer companies that are in the US. there are some out of the US companies, and it will be impossible to have a device checked if it not one of the 5 US companies. And you have a choice in the US of which brand to get. The doctor may have his favorite, but if you have a preference for a specific brand, you can and should ask for it. NEVER allow them to dictate the brand because that is what the hospital "stocks" on the shelf. I wish more people knew this.
