Hi , I just joined tonight after getting word from my dr that Im in need of a PM. Surgery is scheduled within the week. Im nervous to say the least.
My question is, my dr keeps saying Im too young for a PM but he feels it will return my quality of life in general. My normal heart rate is between 29-45. Im often tired and worn out easily doing normal activities around the house.
Im wondering the average age of members here. Im 46.

Scheduled for next week myself. No symptoms, but resting heart rate is around 40. Mom of two so safest bet is get the pacemaker before symptoms start - wouldn't want to crash into a tree because I fainted driving my kids to school.
I too feel too young for this (when I asked the nurse who called to schedule how soon I could go back to work she said she didn't know because most are retired and don't have to worry about it!!), but what are you gonna do? Better to have it if you need it.

Hello!
My name is Amanda, and I am 24 years old. I have had my pacemaker for 1 year this month.
My condition is different than yours, but rest assured that you will feel better after implant. You definantely need all the energy that you can get to chase around your kiddos!
Just remember to follow your post-op instructions very carefully. Take good care of yourself and good luck with your surgery.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to send me a private message.

I don't know why doctors would say that- if you need it, you're not too young! I was 27 when I got my first one, I'm 42 now.
If your hr is dipping into the 20's, that is dangerous! Not only will you be safer with the pm, but you should have a lot more energy. My rate was upper 20's the day I got my first pm. I was exhausted and dizzy all the time, little to no stamina. Now, I work out regularly with weights and the ellipitical as well as hike, ski, rollerblade, tennis.

Hello!
I'm a new person here as well as you! I got my first pacemaker in 1981. I have been hearing the same thing about being to young to have a pacemaker since I've had one. Once it is implanted, you will feel better!

A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.
You're a oldie!

There are a lot of folks on this site in their twenties. Some of them had their PM when they were children. You are grown up enough to have a PM. Have a read around the site and write down the questions you have for your doc before you next see him.
I was 45 when I had my ICD put in.
Good luck and I hope your PM improves your quality of life. Let us know how you get on. Welcome to the club.
