Most home electronics do not interfere with a pm. Newer pm's are shielded. A rule of thumb is to keep anything questionable a minimum of 4-6" away from where the device is implanted. Go ahead and try it! Even on the odd chance there is interference, it isn't damaging and any interruption will cease as soon as you move them apart again. If the headphones don't work or he feels at all odd, try putting the receiver somewhere other than around his neck.

The reason I say with confidence that it isn't damaging to try it... there is a valve in the pm that puts it into a safety mode. It may be uncomfortable because you've lost some of the function that makes many of us feel perfectly normal but it's perfectly safe. They do this when they interrogate it and it can be done manually with a magnet in the extremely rare incident of malfunction. The magnet will pull this valve closed triggering the safety mode, as soon as it is removed, the pm is immediately fully functional again with no harm done.

The type of setup you are describing does not have a transmitter in the hearing aid. The magnet in a hearing aid is so small it shouldn't have any effect on the pacer either.

In general the modern pacer is pretty well immune to outside interference. I just realized that just an hour ago I carried a big woofer speaker into the house from the back of my Jeep. It has got to have a good sized magnet and I carried it in front of my body. No problem at all.

I would gather the information the good folks on this site have given you, then I would call the PM mfg and speak to someone in the Tech Dept., I have called them any time I have had a question and they have been very, very helpful. They should know the absolute definitive answers for you and your hubby.
Good luck and take care of you and yours

Peggy
