You will find a great deal of help with your questions on anticoagulation at www.valvereplacement.com forum. Sad to say, many of the very docs who are regulating coumadin/warfarin will only tell you to "watch your greens". The main thing is to be consistent with your consumption of salads and other sources of Vit K. and have your dosage adjusted to your diet.

INR drop

Hi,

no, not safe, that's way too low, especially for a mechanical valve. As you said your hubby should be somewhere between 3.0 and maybe 3.5 or even 4.0 (Afib patients just need 2.0-3.0). A sudden INR-drop can be caused by certain foods, for example all kinds of cabbage, and there are also some interactions with other meds that can lead to an INR-drop. But basically any changes in one's daily routine can have an affect on the INR, stress, travelling etc.

Think about anything that has changed since he had his last INR test, and about what he has eaten the past couple of days.

Best wishes

inr safe 1.07

Not safe at all. That reading is about as low as it gets. The general population is usually 1.0. HE must be between 2.0-3.0. The only thing I can think of to cause a drastic drop, is he could have missed a dose or two of coumadin. It is extremely important to pay close attenion to his dosing.
