Cost of a pacemaker????????

Can anybody tell me what is the cost of a pacemaker? I have a Medtronic pacemaker that was inserted in July 2008. Can't seem to find a cost on it. Thanks for your responses.

Depends

I think this is going to depend on a lot of different factors. I just had my 4th Medtronic pacemaker implanted in October, and was billed $25,000 total - $21,000.00 of that being the actual cost of the pacemaker itself.

The buy in price to the hosptal can be as low as $1500 dollars plus a hundred dollars or so for each lead. To the patient there is a terrific mark up in the region of 10 times this price, plus medical services rendered. So thats how you can easily reach $25000 dollars with only the blink of an eyelid. Cheers Peter

I would also like to know the cost of a pacemaker! I know what the hospital charged, because I have a detailed billing statement. $49,000 + 6,000 leads + 16,000 for another part labeled pacemaker. Am I shocked?!? YES and dismayed, yes and my DR's office did NOT tell me my insurance company was not contracted with this hospital that I was sent to!!!. :( ...Shocked and dismayed at being a pawn in a cruel game. Especially, when I am the mother of 4 children. If it really is $1,500 as pete stated...Wow!

My Understanding of my Cardio---

by Carolyn65 - 2009-12-06 02:12:50

I had read before my PM/ablation that the costs a few years ago for a PM was between $15 and $20 thousand.

Since my EP/Cardiolgist has his offices/nurses/PM techies/X-rays and all the other necessary tests and equipment for heart problems on the third floor of the Heart Hospital of Austin (you never need to leave) PLUS

Each Cardiologist involved in the Heart Hospital of Austin owns from a small portion to a majority portiion of the Heart Hospital (I was told by a nurse, that he, indeed, owned a majority) and I had to sign before my PM procedure that I understood the Dr.s, did indeed own/have interests in the HH. PLUS ~

I am sure the Cardiologist gets a huge percentage of "selling" a brand of PM, etc. to a patient, PLUS

All the other perks they charge from the Business Office

Who really knows the true value compared to what a patient has to go thru/pay just to live ~

After a successful triple bypass op. was told I needed a pacemaker + defribillator. Cost c. 5,000 but who cares, cos I'm a UK registered citizen and ALL medical costs are covered by our marvelous National Health Service, regardless of income. or status.
