Electromagnets

I read that people with pacemaker should stay away from the Hoover Dam. The dam uses huge electromagnets to generate the power from the Colorado River. Anybody been there with a pacemaker?????

Here is what he said....

We advise people with pacemakers that we do not recommend the Power Plant tour, nor the Dam tour. This is due to the potential for electromagnetic interference (EMI) in these environments. We do however have a self guided tour called the Visitor Center admission. This does not place you in a situation where radiated interference may effect
your pacemaker. We thank you for your interest in Hoover Dam ,and would like to offer you a complementary ticket to this self guided tour
(Visitor Center admission). Please contact me at this email address to
arrange your complementary visit.

OMGosh ~ I have travelled through that area on many occasions, but not since my PM implant in 10/09. This did not even cross my mind, nor ever would probably.

This "post" is just one more example of good "posts/ comments" for anyone with concerns. I wudda never even given that question a thought had the "post" not come up on the PM Club. Thank you for the "alert".

Life should never be taken for granted, nor magnet generated operations. Whatever/which ever it may be.

Power lines/Power Plant can interfere and "confuse" the PM is warned about on some of the brochures you are given.

Hoover Dam Tour

Took the Hoover Dam Tour last week with no problems or issues. There were warnings posted (not recommended for persons with pacemakers) at the entrance / ticket purchase area, and I was also verbally warned about it, but I informed them I work at a power plant and was fine around generators and power lines, just as long as I am not lying on top of them. I did not take the power plant tour. I took the Dam Tour. On the tour, we walked onto a platform high above and at one end of the generators. I am not 100% dependent on the PM, so can't say everyone with a PM would be ok. I would be curious if others have had problems that have led to the warnings, or just a liability thing.

It's much better to live with a pacemaker than to risk your life without one.
