Palpitations

I have Hypertension. Even on my meds my usual BP is 140/90. Yesterday morning I woke up with a low blood pressure of 99/68. That is really low for me. In addition I felt nauseated and very fatigued. I also had palpitations and heart rate of anywhere from 67 to 128. Very wierd day. This morning my BP was better but palps were still evident. This afternoon even after a rotten day at work because of no sleep last night due to palps I am feeling better. Is it normal to have palps after having a PM.

Thanks for the advise Frank.
But should I worry if the palps have been continuous for about the last 36 hours?

36 Hours?

It depends on how you feel about it. I went for for nearly 3 months with my report showing 2500 PVC's/day. Then they disappeared as suddenly as they came on. I think I had a virus of some sort. The other possibility is that I was going through my wife's death and it could have been emotional. The cardiologist offered some meds to try to reduce the PVC's, but I felt I would rather know how things are going.

A year ago I had a different type of problem where the pacemaker intermittently lost ventricular capture, which means my heart wasn't responding to it. I would totally skip 4 beats in a row before pacing would start again. I knew this was serious so I got in for an appt with the Medtronics rep the next day. He turned up the pacing voltage which restored reliable pacing. About a month later I scheduled a follow up and my pacing threshold had returned to normal so we turned the voltage back down. Again, it seems the problem was the result of

One thing to be aware of is anxiety can cause palps so it is easy to get into a vicious circle.

Palps are common in most people, but after getting a pacemaker we seem to be more sensitive to them. The most common are PVC's where the ventricles contract too early and mess up the normal heart beat. They feel like a heavy thump in the chest every so often. Generally, they are no problem. I notice that I have them most often when my HR and/or BP are low. At times my BP goes as low as 90/48. My HR gets down to 56.

Since you have been doing OK since your implant I would just give it a few days. Try to catch up on your sleep and see what happens. If it all clears up I wouldn't be concerned.
