Follow up question

In my last posting I mentioned that I had an EnRythm pacemaker. I really don't understand what it's purpose is.
What would cause it to kick in. I know it is a good sign that it is only pacing at 18-20% But I guess I just don't understand the workings of it. I have tried to research the EnRythm but can't find any info on it. Everywhere I search leads me right back to this site. In my mind that says quite alot for this site.
I actually mentioned this site to my EP's nurse and she wanted the web address so that she can refer people to this site for support. Word of mouth is a wonderous thing isn't it:

Well 18 to 20 percent isn't a bunch but it is still 1/5th of your time alive. You might be feeling a lot worse without it. It just all depends mine started out pacing at 8% then after some adjustments went up to 38%. Now it is up to the 60% range. I know I need it. Things change as we go on. It is nice to know I have the back-up. Bowlrbob

Well Mona, my guess is that since you were dx'd previously with junctional rhythm, at least occasionally, your heart's pacing mechanisms are somewhat erratic and not totally reliable. It is likely your problem comes and goes so the pm only senses the need to respond 20% of the time. You have had a somewhat complicated history (I read your profile) so your situation may change over time, and that pacemaker may become even more important to you in the future. The electrical system of the heart is so complicated that a PM is not always a totally perfect solution. But the reality is that many of us would not be alive today without it. One of the benefits of not pacing frequently is that your battery life is extended so be happy about that.

18-20%

You are right Bowlrbob,
When I think back to my pre-pacer days and how I felt back then I guess the 18-20% pacing that I'm getting is a good thing. I guess I was questioning my need for a pm because I read so many postings from members with very high pacing percentages. It just made me wonder. Thanks for the insight

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
