I did another 5K this weekend. This time with my 18 year old daughter. My time continues to improve -- I finished this 5K in 29:14 (9:25/mile), which is way beyond what I ever thought I could do when I started this whole running thing last year.
My daughter, who hasn't been exactly motivated to do much training of late, finished in 37:45. She did track her freshman and sophomore years in high school, but hasn't kept up with it. I am hoping that she feels sufficiently embarrassed being beat by a 50 year old man (with a pacemaker) that she'll now join me in few more training runs before she goes off to college. She says she wants to do another 5K with me and maybe a 10K in the fall.
All in all, it was a very nice daddy/daughter morning. The weather was beautiful, and we had a nice time sitting in the sun before and after the race just talking and relaxing. That can sometimes be a rare occurance with a busy 18 year old. I think we both had a lot of fun.

Great Run!! Way to go! I'm not quite up to your standards yet, I did a 2 mile fun run with my 27 year old stepdaughter this weekend too. But with a different result, she beat me by a little over a miniute. I kept up with her for about 100 yrds then kept her in sight for 3/4 of the race. I finished in 19:34 (9:47/mile). I'll get her next time!

I'm sure you'd be able to beat me too. I have to walk half a mile to the station up a steep-ish hill and it takes about 12-15 minutes (depending if I'm about to miss it or not...) and I'm exhausted when I get there. No way could I do 5km in less than half an hour!
It sounds like you had a great time with your daughter, I love spending time with my dad, just the two of us.

I feel so blessed to have this little gem implanted in me. When I think of the alternative it is quite overwhelming sometimes.
that's so cool
