Why do you have the pm? If it's a ventricular problem such as av block, it's possible your atrial rate is going faster than the pm's max. I'd ask to be checked, see if you're maxing it out. If they can't tell, ask for a stress test so they can watch what happens when you work out.

Heart Flutter

I wouldn't think your pacemaker has anything to do with the flutter, unless you have one with the rate response turned on. In that case if the upper limit is high enough, it could be involved at the higher heart rate. But if you do not have one with the rate response turned on, and say your settings are low 70 and high 120 your pacemaker would be involved only if your heart rate dropped below 70 and it would become a monitor only when your heart rate goes above 120. But all this is guessing so see your doctor for the facts.

Flutter during high rates

There is a situation where the pacemaker is involved in what you describe. If you have near 100% AV block you are dependent on the pacemaker to pass the atrial beats on the the ventricles. In this case you are in DDD mode with rate response off. There is an upper and lower limit set for ventricular pacing that starts skipping pacing pulses if exceeded.

I had this problem early on when the initial upper limit was set to 120BPM. Any time I exceeded 120 my heart would start skipping beats. I had to push the issue until they set my upper limit to 140 and then on up to 150. No more problems!

I suspect yours is set to 160 and that is what you are encountering. I suggest you stay below that point until you can have it set higher. Having your heart skip beats when you are at the high level of exercise that raises your heart to 160 is not a good thing. At a time when you need the blood flow to support the exertion your heart is being limited. (Kind of like having your car engine start missing when you are passing a truck against oncoming traffic).

Today I explained everything to my doctor, he set my lower rate back to 80 and I felt an immediate improvement.
