Which side for PM?

I thought I would ask if anyone knows how is it decided which side the PM is inserted. Mine is R but my Brothers is L. I had a bit of trouble with the seatbelt but not too bad now that the sorness is going.
I was told not to use a Gun! [ there goes my big game hunting career ]

They're normally put on the left because it's closest to the heart but sometimes they can go on the right.

Depending on the type of gun, you can still shoot. I target shoot with handguns and do sporting clays (shotgun). Just make sure the stock of the gun doesn't hit the pm if you anchor it up against your shoulder to shoot. And handguns are no problem.

Just a thought...

Now, I'm not completely sure about this. I've had a PM all my life and never even thought about this. But, I have had pacemakers in various different spots of the body, so I would imagine it is a mixture of the surgeon's preference and where there is room...

One other theory

My cousin was a nurse in a doctor's office where they put in a lot of pacemakers. They usually tried to put it in on the "non-dominant" side. If the patient was right-handed, they would put it on the left side of teh chest and vice versa. That way, when they needed to restrict their arm movements for the first few weeks, it wouldn't be quite as incapacitating.

L or R

Thanks for the info. my brother was asked which was his dominant side [ R ] and got it in the L.
Thanks, TraceyE. I think it will have to be an M16 from the hip. (;>)

Shoot with a camera instead :)

I do shoot Armadillos that dig up my yard. I use a sawed off single shot 12 awg with a laser sight that I bought at Dick's Sporting Goods. I hold the gun at waist height, put the red dot on the critter and BOOM! They mostly come out at night. The 12awg sounds like a cannon. I'm sure my neighbors just love to hear it. lol

NOT hunt!

by Tracey_E - 2009-02-06 06:02:02

Dave, I love to shoot but only paper targets and hunks of clay, nothing with a heart beat! All the men in my family are hunters and my husband is former law enforcement, so we have a few guns in the house and I grew up around them. I didn't really set out to like it, I just wanted to know how they work since they're in the house, figure that's safer than ignorance. Turns out it's fun, lol. It's been a while since we shot, this area isn't exactly rural and the place we used to go is now a subdivision.
