2 months later....

I've had my PM for about 2 months now and can't believe how good I feel. Two little things tough. 1. I have what seems to be an insatiable itch around the PM, is this common, does anyone else have this? 2. I still treat the area with some delicacy when I'm showering even though it's completely healed, is this something others do?

Minor problems I know but I just wondered if I was alone.

PM itching

by petrolhead - 2009-03-04 05:03:38

Hey, welcome. I had an ILR since November, which was taken out on Saturday when they put my PM in. The area around the ILR sometimes itched like crazy, but settled down eventually.
As for showering, as soon as the dressing and stitches were removed from my ILR site I washed the area the same as the rest of me, and there were no problems. I imagine it'll be the same with the PM.

I remember the itching! It drove me crazy for a few weeks....and even occasionly for a few months. And it is natural to want be careful with the PM area while bathing.

Let me also welcome you to our group. You will like it here. Feel free to ask ANY question and voice ANY concerns. We can give you some answers according to our own experiences. But, of course, you should also feel free to call your doctor for serious medical advice.

Again, welcome,

My ICD has been in almost a year and from time to time I still have itching.
All kinds of things will come up so never be afraid to come and talk about them.
Best wishes

You might try this

There is a product available in health food stores called Sting Stop that might help. It isn't anything strong that could cause problems. I used it around the pacemaker incision during that itch phase of healing and it helped. I use it for insect bites as well.

Thanks for the replies. Frank, is that a US product? as I've never heard of it. I'll have to see if there is a UK equivalent otherwise.

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!
