Can you have children with a pacemaker

I have a pacemaker and it was put in on with my 4th child. I had a Amniotic fluid embolism. I want to have another baby with my boyfriend. I don't know if that's a good idea. Can someone tell me if it is.

ask your doctor

It's up to your doctor if you are safe to have another baby, but several of us here have had children with pacemakers without any complications. The pm itself doesn't have any affect on a pregnancy, the question is the underlying reason why you needed it.

Yes or No

Hello MS,

If you want opinions from nonmedical people I'll offer mine. Don't have another child. The mortality rate for the mothers having an amniotic fluid embolism is greater than 60 to 65%. You beat the odds with the one you had but since the underlying cause of amniotic fluid embolisms is unknown, there is nothing to say you will not have another with your next pregnancy. That means you could very well be leaving 4 or 5 motherless children to fend for themselves.

Based on what little I know, the pacemaker is in this case a non issue. It will keep trying to do what it was implanted to do, whether you are having fun or having a baby.

Of course the opinions you get here are worth exactly what you pay for them, so in the end you should let your conscience and your doctor's advice be your guide.

Good luck,

Smitty
