Medtronic or Boston Scientific

In January I had a pacemaker implanted, and a month later I received a medical device id card from Medtronic. Then this week I received another medical device id card from Boston Scientific. Can someone clarify why I have cards from two different companies?

thanks
Ivana

They are competitors. They use different interogation equipment, so your pacer tech can tell you for sure which device you have.

In looking at it closer, my Boston Scientific card actually says that the pacemaker is Medtronic. So I figure that the leads are Boston Scientific and the pacer is Medtronic. I will carry both cards b/c one has the serial numbers for the leads and the other has the serial numbers for the pacer.

I wish they both were hard plastic like the Boston Scientific card...more durable.

Amazing the amount of information available from this site when we pool all of our inputs.

Another possibility

Take a close look at the cards. It is possible to have a pacemaker from one manufacturer and leads from another. The connections to the pacer are pretty much interchangeable. Docs have their preferences.

Or maybe it's one(G

On the Medtronic card they list the Implant Date, Serial#, and Model#. The pacemaker will have a Model# something like KDR701 (mine). It will be several letters followed by some numbers. The leads have a Model# which is all numbers with maybe a dash in between some.

I'm not familiar with the Boston Scientific card. Maybe someone else can fill you in on it.

Pacemaker I.D. Cards

If you would like to see what an I.D. cards from Medtronic, St. Jude and Boston Scientific looks like, go to Google Images and put in (name of manufacturer) pacemaker I.D. card. I'm sure others are there but I couldn't think of the manes of any other pacemaker manafacturers. Seems that they all contain about the same information but it is just formatted slightly different.
