Are there any members out there that play golf? I had my PM surgery one week ago and now have only 5 weeks to wait until I can play again. My question is, once healed and no chances of pulling out the leads, is your swing affected very much because of having a PM in your left shoulder?

helped me in my game, it made me not swing hard, always aware of the pm and swing easier like i should have done before. Still not good but am hitting the ball straighter since slowing my swing down.

My dad got titanium rods in his lower back a few years ago. He says it's the best thing that ever happened to his golf swing! He always stays nice and straight now.

Seriously, it shouldn't make any difference in your swing.

Playing Golf With A PM

I've had my pacemaker since 2002 and went back to playing golf about 3 months after the implant. I have not even noticed the presence of the PM. I never feel it and it has not helped (dang it) or hurt my score. The only thing I notice is that I seem to be slightly less tired than before the PM, but that could be because I have exercised more since I got the PM. One other thing, I did not wait 3 mo. for medical reasons, it was too hot to play for the first couple of months, then I was on vacation and playing golf was not convenient.

I might add, I frequently play golf with another PM Club member (Smitty) who got his PM a couple of years before I did and he never mentions having one.

That 1/2 the people on the course have PMs. :) I have played once or twice.

I forgot also since i had my bypass to, that might have alot to do with my easier swing also. How long has your dad had his pins put in. Father in law has them also. Hope what i have had done is all for me, dont need or want anymore surgeries for anything else.

It's been about 4 years now. He had 2 disks replaced, fixing damage from the polio he had as a kid. The surgery wasn't easy and recovery was many months and left residual nerve damage, but he went from barely able to walk across a room and constant severe pain to hiking, skiing, biking, golfing. Mom calls us the titanium twins when we ski together cuz neither of us would be on the slopes without it!
