Health Insurance Denied due to PM!

I had pm put in 1/28/09 for heart pauses..my husband was just laid off from his company and we will not be covered by the beginning of this month.

We cannot afford COBRA and checked w/ a few other carriers and insurance brokers, they all said I would be an automatic denail due to pacemaker!
Help..let me know if you have changed coverage after pm surgery and with who.
Thanks!
Rosie

Individual policies will not insure anyone that's not completely healthy. Or, you might find a policy that'll take you but exclude cardiac. A group policy is the only way you'll ever get covered now. Having been born with a heart condition, I've lived with this for a lot of years! We've always made sure one of us works for a large company, one that has a group policy that doesn't look at pre-existing conditions.

I see you're a Realtor, check with your local and state associations to see if they have a group policy you can join. Or check through your state or Chamber of Commerce, sometimes they have group policies for the self employed, though around here you can only join in August. May seem drastic, but worst case maybe consider a part time job at a place like Starbucks that offers full time benefits to part time employees so you have some type of coverage until you decide what to do long term. Good luck! It's a huge pain.

COBRA

Are you aware that you only have to pay 35% of the cost of a COBRA package if one was involuntarily terminiated from their job betweeen 9-1-08 and 12-31-09? This is a feature of the government's stimuls package. I think the COBRA subsidy is only good for 9 months but that may help.

You can get insurance

I lost my insurance after a layoff and got rejections for a preexisting condition.

After I reading some insurance forums I noticed there is a law that requires insurance companies take people with preexisting conditions if they already have insurance. You must not let more that 60 days elapse between your old policy ending and the new policy begins. There must offer the top two most popular plans.

This information may be on the insurance company web site but they will make it difficult to find.

This is how I got my current insurance.

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
