:-)

Hi guys, I've just come in from having a lovely dinner with my husband and our very good friend. We enjoyed Mexican food and a beer.... or two. I don't usually drink very much but I certainly enjoyed my beer tonight with dinner.
My question is: Is it ok to enjoy a beer with dinner every once in awhile? I can't remember if I should or shouldn't and quite frankly after the last two weeks of my life I really don't know that once in awhile will matter all that much! Anyway, I was thinking I should ask you guys... just in case. Tomorrow I will read what I wrote and what ya'll had to say... gotta go now... hope this makes sense... and no I was not driving, I'm not that nutty.

I hope it isn't a problem

I have a glass of wine or a beer almost every evening with my meal. As far as triglyceride levels, Smitty, there seems to be new research on that one on a regular basis with each study contradicting the one before it.

Anyway, alcohol has no effect on the pacemaker as such. It might have an effect on some underlying cardiac problem though.

A drink or two

Hey Pacergirl,

I know of no reason why we can't have a drink just because we have a pacemaker. In fact if it was all bad I can guarantee you I (and probably a lot more of our members) wouldn't be here now. Up until a couple of years ago I drank an ounce or two of bourbon almost daily and then I found out that the alcohol was causing high triglyceride levels and causing my doctor concern, so I quit.

Come to think of it, it was about that time that arrhythmia became a real problem that I have not been able to get solved. Something I'll have to think about. I may have to start visiting Evan again.

Enjoy,

Smitty

Alcohol and PM

To my knowledge there are no contraindications. However, as Frank mentioned there could be underlying cardiac reasons why one shouldn't consume alcohol. Keep in mind that most cardiac medications and alcohol don't mix. Alcohol in some cases can exacerbate the effects of the medication or it can lessen the efficacy of the medication.

So it's really not a yes or no answer...everyone is different...their health, their medications, their underlying cardiac disease. But like Frank and Smitty I like my glass of wine and to me you can't beat an ice cold beer on a hot day!

Good day Smitty and Frank!

My goodness! I am in good company!!! I feel rested and happy this morning.... I slept great, after a wonderful delightful dinner and then home to relax and a good sleep.

I do so hope you both are thinking about traveling to Tampa Florida for the fundraiser in Sept. Please, Please both of you, won't you consider it? We could have a nice drink to celebrate just being alive.

I don't seem to have any other problems apart from the arrhythmia problems so I shall have a nice cold beer with friends on special occasions.

Thanks for you advice,
cheers! Pacergirl

If you're not on meds that say no alcohol and your doctor hasn't mentioned it, it's probably ok. As the others said, just having a pm doesn't have any affect on drinking. I had two lovely glasses of chardonnay last night. Ask Loopy about the martinis she had at my house... I think she might have liked them LOL. We both survived. :o)

Ditto Pacergirl's request that Smitty and Frank come to Tampa!
