Hockey

Hi all, My first post! Just wondering if there are any members out there have returned to full contact hockey? Im a 28 yr old semi-pro hockey player. I had my PM sub pectoraly implanted 9 days ago. Everything went well but im itching to get back out there! I know I will be out for a good while yet. My condition is not life threatening the PM is precortionary, which is why i'v been told I can continue to play (with extra padding!). Probably have hundereds of questions but will only post a couple; How long will it be before i can do full pull-ups? and has anyone experianced any complications with the sub pectoral implant?

Many thanks. The messages I have read on here have been most helpfull.

6-8 weeks

Definitely get extra padding! Of course, ya'll are pretty much buried under padding anyway so it's just an extra precaution.

It's up to your doctor when you can go back, but it's usually 6 weeks before they let us lift weight and have full range of motion with the left arm. It may be a few weeks longer than that until you can work your way back to your old routine with pull ups, etc.

With your doctor's approval, you can probably start skating and/or running again now. No weights or stress on that left arm yet, but a little aerobic exercise is often ok before the 6 weeks is up if your heart is otherwise healthy.

Pull-ups

I had my PM installed 12/8/08, I waited 8 weeks before I did pull-ups. I had no problems other than I was out of shape because I hadn't exercised properly for 8 months because on my condition. I'm working out 3x a week now...

Good luck,
Steve
