Having some issues here.....

Hi this is an off topic questions so if you don’t care to read about another health issue please skip over this request for information.

What do you all know or can tell me about vitamin B12 deficiency? I think I am suffering with this and have for a long time.

Please let me know your thoughts.
Thank you,
Pacergirl

p.s. Yes, I am seeing a Dr. and yes there have been test ordered. The next step is a ECG. I would like to avoid that for sure!

One can also become deficient in the vitamin by taking Prevacid for acid reflux (GERD). It happened to me. I am gradually recovering what I lost by taking extra B-12

Another cause is Crohn's disease again it's when the body can not absorb and store the vitamin and loses it through frequent bowel mvovements. My sister is on Vit B-12 injections once a month as she has Crohn's disease. Here are a list of other things that can cause B-12 deficieny, the information below was taken from Medline Plus Medical Encyclopedia

* Abdominal or intestinal surgery that affects intrinsic factor production or absorption
* A diet low in vitamin B12 (for example, a strict vegetarian diet that excludes all meat, fish, dairy products, and eggs)
* Chronic alcoholism
* Crohn's disease
* Infection with the fish tape worm
* Intestinal malabsorption disorders
* Pernicious anemia, which is caused by the destruction of intrinsic factor by the immune system

Symptoms

* Confusion or change in mental status in severe or advanced cases
* Decreased sense of vibration
* Diarrhea
* Fatigue
* Loss of appetite
* Numbness and tingling of hands and feet
* Pallor
* Shortness of breath
* Sore mouth and tongue
* Weakness

Good luck with this.....hope you get some answers...cheers Mary Anne

Thanks Patch and Eperr for responding.

I had read up on some of the symptoms but you 2 have really enlightened me more, just as I had hoped you would.

I will know more on Friday if this is what is causing my problems with balance, tingling and an assortment of other issues.

Thank you again,
