Baseball protection

I have a 5 year old son who is going to start t-ball this year. As an infant he had open heart surgery and at 2 he had a pacemaker implanted on his left side just above his pectoral muscle. I have found a shirt that has a protective plate that will cover his heart but have had no luck finding anything to protect his pacemaker. I would really appreciate it if any parent out there has had the same situation and what they have done or bought to protect their child's pacemaker. Thanks for your help.

should be fine without

Unless your doctor said he needs it, he should be ok without. They usually recommend guards for basketball and hockey- games where you're very likely to get hit. Baseball is not generally considered a contact sport.

I don't know the link off hand but there is a company that makes guards. If you do a search of past posts, it should come up.

Pacemaker Protection

I don't know where you can find one, but I think you should continue your search for a guard of some type for that pacemaker. While the risk is low, he could get hit directly on his pacemaker by a thrown ball. Let's face it at age 5 there is not a lot of tissue covering that pacemaker. Although in T-ball he will not be having a ball thrown for him to hit, he will be running the bases where the ball is being thrown and at times there can be lots of little flailing arms, elbows and knees out there. So play it safe, and if you can find nothing else sew a good thick potholder inside his shirt so that it will cover that pacemaker.

try this

Hey i played baseball for years as a catcher and besides the regular vest they had, my parents and i went out and bought a thicker one for under my uniform. it was hot during the summer but it worked great. later found out that the one i got was a rugbee vest. so take a look at those it worked great. covered my whole chest. But im glad to see that your not holding your son back. I truly believe that he was given a second chance at life for a reason and should enjoy it. good luck on the search let me know what you find. also ask your doc he may know of a few things

I was thinking the same thing

I was reading all of the comments, and what came to my mind was a football uniform without the outter big bulky shoulder pads. That would definitely work, I think, if you couldn't find anything else.

Good luck, and I hope your little guy has fun.
