Magnetic Badges

Some of my PM friends may find this helpful. I usually wear scrubs to work because I work for a Dr. and he likes to be able to pick me out of the crowd when the room is full and some other reasons. Well, we have hired a new person (cool) to help out and she suggested that we wear street clothes and a "work" top over. So I will be changing now into dressier clothes.
This is the interesting part.... They want to have us wear the magnetic badges with our names on them. Well, before I got my panties in a bunch I called the number on my St. Jude Medical card and sure enough a technologist answered. She looked up my pacemaker model and my records and in a few short minutes she explained that if I wore the badge on the opposite side of my pacemaker, it would be just fine. NO PROBLEM! Yippee! I can be "normal" like everyone else and they don't even have to know. I will pay attention as to how I am feeling, but I should be just fine.
Just thought you all would like to know what I learned today.
Blessings to all of you,
Pacergirl

I wear a badge at the hospital I work at and I position it by my right side collar bone (my PM is on the left). It works and I don't feel any affects. Also, beware of automatic doors that have magnets. I walk through but never linger. These doors automatically close when there is a fire drill and then clip onto magnets at the top. And yes, I'm learning that we are normal. Three months post-op and feeling much better! Have a great weekend! Blanca

What kind of magnetic badge?

Is the badge held on by a magnet or does it just have a magnetic stripe like a credit card. The mag stripe type don't have enough field to even be measurable at an inch.

The badge I will be wearing in a name badge with 2 magnets on the back which will hold the name tag in place on the other side of the fabric of me top. :-)

Magnetic Badge

Sorry so slow to get back. I'm getting ready for a trip and just plain forgot to check in.

The kind of badge you describe could be a problem if it is right over the pacemaker. The problem is that this is exactly the way they use a magnet to switch some pacers into programming or safe mode. The best idea is to wear the badge on the opposite side if possible.
