Airport security

Is it true we're not supposed to go through airport security? It has only been the last couple of years that I have gone around. Could it cause damage to the PM?

I was going through them too. So I finally asked my EP he told me just what TracyE said. It won't ruin it but could reset it to the out of box presettings. I know I would not want that I have special settings on mine. And they are working. So I always tell them now. Besides the pat down is kind of fun. NOT!!!

Airport security no problem

Hi, I just got my pacemaker in December and I was worried about the airport too. I have flown 6 times since without any problem at all. I carry a card but unless I set off the machine which I haven't yet, I am not going to tell them. I just walk right through at normal speed and go on about my business. It helps me not think of myself as "different now". I hear if you show them the card or tell them, they pull you out and send you to another area where you have to wait for a female TSA agent to come do a hand pat down. I don't know about you but I am always in a hurrry and that would drive me nuts so I just walk through. Be brave and try it once and you will see. I do set off the walk through bar type security towers that Best Buy and Barnes and Noble book store has. I just tell them and keep walking. Good luck.

I've never been in an airport, but I've gone through security posts and ALWAYS set them off. They don't damage the PM if you pass through them at a normal speed, but show your card or bracelet or whatever beforehand. If you do, usually you get to go through a special line. :) When I went to the Holocaust Mesuem with my class last year, I set off the alarm; it was embarrassing!! So when we went to the National Archieves, I was smart and showed my card. :)

Two problems with your approach.

One, we've had members here who went through many times just fine before they went through one day and their pm was reset. An ambulance ride to the ER will slow you down a lot.

Second, if you go through and set it off, the pat down takes a whole lot longer because they are a lot more suspicious than if you tell them up front that you have an implant. In my experience they are always expedient and respectful.

I've flown more than a dozen times in the last year. If I go first, I'm usually done about the same time my family goes through the line.

If you do a search (button in the upper right corner) there has been a lot of discussion about this in the past. We are not supposed to go through the metal detectors. They aren't supposed to damage the pm, but they've been known to wipe out the settings, which leaves you feeling really bad until it's reset. Always tell them you have a pm, they will walk you around and do a pat down. They can't use the wands, they are just smaller versions of the big metal detectors.

Syndey, the only place I have ever actually used my id card is at the federal buildings in DC! Every place else with metal detectors, just telling them I have it is enough and they've never asked for the id card.

I'ts not about being brave

Sand Dollar: Why would you give people such foolish advice as to "be brave" and just walk on through? This is not about being brave. It is totally irresponsible for you to tell folks to walk on through when our doctors tell us to ask for a pat down and avoid the machine and the wand. If you are fool enough to gamble with your life, that is your business, but when you give out dangerous advice in this group, it is our business to call you on it.

hummmmm

Ive never set off a store secruity alarm. But after being told to be careful with airport security checks I for one would rather have a good ole pat down then take the chance, hey but thats just me, I wouldnt just take the chance, I think that is what got me in the condition Im in now oh just take the chance. NOT ME!!!!!!

I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.
