Home monitoring device

Hi,

my wife was given a home monitoring device recently to monitor her merlin ICD we can't get it to work and the supplier seems to think it is because we have cable telephone and not BT.
We had no problem with the other device she had fitted which was medtronic? before Merlin.

has anyone else had a problem?

Hello, I have a Merlin and we have cable phone as well. My husband had to rewire the bedroom so we have a direct phone line now attached to the MERLIN. He checked the line for dial tone using the land line connected directed to the new line as to verify that it was indeed working. He then he connected that line to the MERLIN. Pushed the buttons and went through the steps to set it up. Of course I had to sit next to it for about 10 min. before it would pickup my pacemaker. I don't believe it would work any different with an ICD. I have a St. Jude Pacemaker.

I hope this helps you. If not I can put you in touch with my husband (email?) and he says he would be glad to lend you some help.

how do you tell if the merlin is working ?

I too hacve a merlin and it just sits there with it's green eye looking at me. is it supposed to to anything. I got it way back in October and have no idea if it is doing what it is supposed to or not. One night about 2 weeks ago I woke up feeling like my heart was trying to catch up and a bit breathless but it passed in less than a minute so I went back to sleep since any sleep I get have been shallow and very far apart since I got this thing put in. No one told me anything about what or when it is supposed to work. so it has been sitting there catching dust and drawing power and i have no idea what is up. Any ideas?
Thanks ,

Hi Kathy,
I have often asked the same question... "Is this thing working?" I really have to wonder. I have had mine since March of 2010, so it has been almost a full year. I every once in a while go over to the MERLIN and push the reset button. It then goes through the process of recognizing my pacemaker and through all it's paces, the lights, beeps and then finally to just the little green eye that "watches" over me.

When I last had a visit with the cardiologist the person who manages my pacemaker and the merlin said to me that she had not received any notices from my MERLIN that I was having any problems. I was having some problems and that was why I was at his office was my reply. :) So like you, I have to wonder how well the system is working. I have learned to pay attention to how I am feeling and I have had pacemakers long to know when I should call my dr. or sched. a visit. Wishing you the best of luck, stay in touch :)

My idea is when in doubt check it out.

Thanks pacergirl,

I have even tried it in the main socket that comes in to the house, it picks up the device and goes through everything until it needs to transmit the information. It then fails.

You're not alone.

I have a Care Link monitor by Medtronic and I also couldn't get the monitor to transmit. It would read my device just fine but when it came to sending the info, it wouldn't complete the transmission. I finally got tired of trying to use a landline phone in a number of locations and decided to order the E-Link device which will send the signal using cell phone signals.

I paid for the monthly service for a full year and I'll find out Monday when I attempt a first run, if this darn thing will work. I think these companies are using us as test subjects with these remote monitors cause far too manhy people are having problems with their devices transmitting! I'll post on Monday (here) if I am finally able to send a transmission to my clinic. for those of you who don't have Medtronic, ask the manufacturer of your device if they offer a wireless attachement for your monitor.

In the information era, people’s life is filled with hustles and bustles. Sometimes we just want a quiet environment to enjoy ourselves. Then you may need this cell phone blocker which can be got from http://www.jammerfromchina.com/categories/Mobile_Phone_Jammers/ masking for acoustic interference against listening devices.

A pacemaker suddenly quitting is no more likely to happen than you are to be struck by lightening.
