New To This All

Hello folks. I'm a 41-year old male from Milwaukee who had a Medtronic SEDR01 dual chamber pacemaker implanted last Thursday (March 26). This is all new to me. This is my first major medical experience, so in that respect I guess I'm lucky. The incision site so far appears clear of infection. I have some obvious pain associated with the surgical site and ice does the trick. What I have noticed is that when I move about somewhat beyond sedentary (ie. sitting on the couch), I feel a little bit of heart burn type sensation in my chest. I don't feel short of breath or anything like that--just a little bit of burning. Is this normal?

Welcome to the club.

Hey, you had your pacemaker on my birthday!!!

It seems like you are doing well post op.

My only suggestion: when in doubt, call your doctor.

It is much better to ask and find out it's nothing, than to let it go and then have to deal with something. Know what I mean? Peace of mind will help too, no sense worrying....call your doctor!!!

Normal? I didn't think that word existed anymore.

Welcome. I have the same model PM as you. I am a 43 year old woman who had hers implanted in January. I haven't felt any heart burn sensation as such, but as the incision healed it did feel warm from time to time. Keep an eye on it...heat can be a sign of infection. Pookie speaks the truth...call the Doc with concerns.

Good luck and keep checking in...there is a lot of help available from the veterans of the club!

Calling my doctor as I write this post. Thanks for the encouraging words. I assume some of this is just the leads settling in and the body adjusting to this THING in my chest. How weirdly bizarre this all is. But as they say: life is journey!

No heartburn here

I just had my pacer implanted on the 30th, so just a few days after you. I have felt a little light-headedness as I am getting use to the pacemaker working, but no heartburn. I wouldn't think that would be related, but I could be wrong. Please let us know how things turn out and what the doc says. Heh, I may be going through the same in a couple days.

You know you're wired when...

You take technology to heart.
