THANKS billMFI

Thanks bill for telling me about using pads as an external pacemaker during pacemaker replacement in patients with av node ablation and no residual pacing. I dont know if they do that in the UK but I am going to ask them at my next pacing check. Peter

Pacemaker Dependent?

Ok, not to sound ignorant here, but on Feb. 10th I had my AV node ablated and was fitted with a Medtronics Adapta DR01 dual chamber pacer (with two leads). Am I now PM dependent? If this thing conks out, am I toast? I mean, I know that our lives depend on machines all the time without us thinking about it (planes, autos, etc.), but I want to know how vigilant I need to be about protecting my new machine from all enemies foreign and domestic.
Thanks in advance for your answers and comments!

ICDs vs PMs

I had my first ICD interrogation yesterday but was troubled by one thing. It appeared that when they used to interrogate my PM, the procedure took about 20 minutes or so. The ICD interrogation took around 5 minutes. Very surprising to me. Is this the norm?

Storage

I was for a long time, thinking about Cabg Patch's question. This is what I think, or should I say, been lead to believe.

My husband says I am warm, sunny and sometimes have a very dry sense of humor. So that should mean I should have an extended useable storage life on my parts. They would be good for recycling as needed! he he...

Before anyone gets too excited... the PM battery is running low despite the efforts of my heart to beat on it's own, so I guess even though it...

GODS HELP

A little old lady needed a pacemaker but she did not have enough money to pay the medical bill. She was a churchgoer but after her prayers had not been answered she decided to write a letter to God. So she sat dawn and wrote a letter which said "Please dear God could you be so kuind as to send me enough money to pay for my heart pacemaker. Your most trusting and loyal servant. Mavis
She wrote on the envelope Our Heavenly Father.
Unfortunately the post office did not know where they c...

QOTW

Hey all! As you know, it's that time of the week again... QUOTE TIME!! Yeah!!!

"Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it."
- George Santayana

And I say... BWAHAHAHA!!! Oh yeah, I made a typo - the White Tie Affair's song "Candle" does NOT go "I'm so tired of being sick and tired", rather, "I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired." I have to fix things lik...

Anaesthetic

With reference to Petrolheads recent post and Electricfranks post which I agree with. I would like to make a few observations. Here in the UK you dont seem to get put under but are given a sedation dose plus the essential local needle injected anaesthetic. I found that the sedative dose given via cannular had no effect on me whatsoever. The local anaesthetic was inadequate and I felt the surgeons knife cutting painfully through my flesh. I pointed this out and was given some more local anaetheti...

doctor's visit

It's almost 2 years since I got my PM for SSS/bradychardia. this site was great and helped me alot. I had a tough time emotionally with anxiety and responding to every ache and pain. The weird aches and pains are still there but since then I have run 2 half marathons, walked a few more, and am training for a long canoe race. It's a long way from where I was with hoping to just live another week(even though I was constantly assured the pm was a solution to a minor electrical problem).

Another post

Hey again! I have a song that's perfect for us. It's called Candle by The White Tie Affair. Part of the song goes; "I'm so tired of being sick and tired". That's how I feel somedays. Anyway, I realize that someone in the medical field needs to know about the pain so I can get some relief, but the methods they use are so primative!! I've had at least 10 vials of blood taken, 1 Holter, and a few chest X - rays. I find it strange that no ECHOs, stress tests, or tilt tables were performed, but they...

Questions

Good evening fellow bionic buddies! I have some questions. First, I know it's been asked before many a time, but is there any way one would know if a lead snapped??? Would there be any pain? Second, well, I forgot... Gettin old... :) LOL Oh yeah!!! This morning I had to walk to school from the elemenatry school where my mom works because I had to get there early and I almost passed out several times from not being able to catch my breath. It felt that my lungs were being crushed!! This happened...
