Had my PM fitted yesterday morning 29th Jan at 9.20 am. Not as bad I thought it would be. Its a bit painful and a bit bruised, but this is only the first day. Hope it will improve as they days go by.
Thanks to all those who sent me kind thoughts and best wishes.

Hi all,
I have noticed that when I put my left arm straight up beside my ear(i.e swimming)that the edge of my pacemaker is clearly visible through the skin on the side of my peck so it kind of sticks out on my left side.
Has anyone else noticed that this happens to them?
Cheers
Pete

The low setting on my pacemaker is 60. I was feeling really rotten earlier today, so I decided to check my blood pressure. It was 90/40 and my pulse was 35. The low blood pressure is not unusual for me, but I thought that the low pulse was very odd considering the settings on my PM. I checked a couple more times to be sure that the reading was accurate, and it was well below 60 each time. This isn't normal, is it? Could there be something wrong with my PM?

When you go through airport security does everyone show their card? or just when they walk through and set off the alarm? I walk through and have not set off an alarm yet, just curious to see what everyone else does. I don't know anyone that has a PM so I don't know what the Standard Operating Procedure is. Thanks. I have always suffered from cold feet at nights. When I got my pacemaker my problem seemed to get worse. The problem of being cold gradually crept up my legs to my knees. I have also noticed that my left leg is actually 2cm bigger around than my right. I wonder if this is anything to do with my pacmaker if the lower setting is now too low to cope. lowest rate is 50bpm. Just a thought. Or is it the GO disease (getting old.) Cheers Billie

A distant and elderly family friend has suffered from a heart attack. He has had triple bypass surgery and a pacermaker fitted some time ago. He was unconcious when he recieved treatment and then placed on life support. The life support has now been removed ( he is still in an unconcious state - not expected to recover), the family are expecting him to pass away.
My questions are.... Is the pacemaker still keeping him alive? Do the doctors turn it off or slow it down so that nature ta...

Do any of you have ID bracelets for your kids? If so, at what age did you get it for them? My son is almost 17 months. And I was thinking, maybe I should get one so that he gets used to wearing it for when he gets older. And then my next question would be, what information did you put on it. My son is on meds, but they can change or get discontinued, so I was thinking of putting the Walgreens phone number that we always use for all of his meds? And then, his pacer is set for VVI 80, but th...

I found out during my last PM interrogation that I was having episodes of tachycardia. These episodes were not present before the PM and are causing very uncomfortable sensations and symptoms. Is this normal? I am unable to take meds for the tachy because of my low blood pressure. Am I in store for an ablation or other invasive procedure?
I am scheduled to see my doc again on Friday to see if the episodes are posing any sort of threat. Any questions that you can suggest I ask her would be...

Any help with this is very much appreciated

Hi again everyone.
Well its 18 months since i had my Medtronics Adapta pacer implanted.
So far so good, things seem pretty normal.
My doctor has moved me on to annual check-ups, so i guess things must be ok.
Back working normally, driving daily, basically being like anyone else.
I do have one question though,
When time comes to replace my pacemakers battery, which i know means a complete new pacemaker.
Will i be able to keep my old one,...

Hello again! I feel that there are too many people offending others, and I know there are many sensitive people (I am one) :). I feel that we need to try to understand each other a little more. Here is a quote that may help:

Keep smiling and try to be kinder to one another! I know I really need to li...

I had a pacemaker change out and pocket revision Dec. 20th, 36 days ago. All has gone well, but one end of the scar still has a red "dot". Yesterday I took a closer look at it with a magnifying mirror and there appears to be what could be a "stitch" in the middle of the red dot. I only had steri strips after the procedure on the outside, but I suppose they may have used stitches inside. The area is not an angry red and there is no discharge or swelling. The rest of the scar seems very unobtrusiv...

Hi! My son had open heart surgery last X-mas 2006 for a congential heart disease (hole in the septal tissue between the atriums). He had just turned 2yrs. During surgery a stitch disrupted his natural heart beat. Three weeks later he had a permanent pacemaker put in. He thinks his pacemaker is special and he asks everyone "Wanna see my 'maker?" He is a very active, healthy 3yr old now and I'm looking for some sort of gaurd for his pacemaker (in his tummy). What I have found are way too bi...

Thanks all for responding about the potential protruding stitch. I did see a doc and it was indeed a stitch which had broken through the skin. He removed it and all is well. He also explained that when this happens it really needs to be removed to prevent further irritation/inflamation. So all is well that ends well....TwoCents

Hi everyone
Haven't posted in a while but I just wanted to let everyone know that after my 3 month check up(3 1/2 months really) ,my doctor told me I could go back to work as a Paramedic in the field. He had initially told me I wouldn't be able to go back but he said things had healed well and I had not had any "events" with my pacemaker, and he couldn't see any reason for me not to go back. It was great news for me and another step on my return to getting back to my life. This site has bee...
