Shocking, Just Shocking

I have had this Pacemaker only, no Defibrillator, for almost 6 years now.  I have gone to a new Cardiologist for about a year now.  My last check up I was told I am at  2.77 volts, and will be changed out at 2.7 volts. Told me to come see him in 6 months.

During this time, I had the " Magic Mouse " put over my PM while they were taking the readings. During this time it is hard for me because of the pain, of all the shocks, because the Medtronic’s la...

Severe coughing

I have had a real bad cold and have been continually coughing for approximately three weeks, coughing finally getting better. Question has anyone experienced disruption of normal heart beat, skipping a beat after or during a bad coughing spell? I received a dual chamber pacemaker in June (PM2210) and was tired for the first month or so; energy level is returning. When checking BP lately I noticed that I am missing a beat about every 10 to 15 beats??

Pain with breathing in

Hi there all,
I am a 40 year old woman who just had a dual chamber pacemaker put in 5 days ago for persistant bradycardia.
Since the surgery I have had pain when I breath in. Mostly with deep breaths. Otherwise no other signs of issues except the expected pressure and pain at the incision site. I have no issues with my breathing or swelling.
Has anyone experienced this?
Not sure what to think of this. I am an RN but can't seem to determine if this is something to report ba...

Errors in hospitals

Thank you all for sharing your healing process.
I would like to share one of very many bubbles from my journey of before and after PM because it just may help someone. My surgery for PM on 11/22/10 @ 10:00 am was painless.
On 11/23/10 @ 8:30 am my surgeon Dr. P. checked the follow up X-ray, everything was in place looking good and I did`t have a fever so I was preparing to go home. Everything changed when @ 10:00 am the Medtronic technician interrogated the PM and informed me that on...

Congestive Heart Failure/Pericarditis

My 70 year old mom who was vibrant and in overall good health had a pacemaker last week. She had a sick sinus node and the monitor showed her having a heartbeat of 30 beats per minute quite frequently throughout the day. This was the reason for the pacemaker. She has been struggling ever since the operation. They say she has medically induced congestive heart failure (from the pacemaker surgery) and they "think" it will get better over time. Tonight she was diagnosed with pericarditis. Thi...

New Here...worried about mom

Hi all,

My 70 year old mother had a pacemaker implanted six days ago and in currently in the hospital with many strange complications. The doctors are puzzled about what is causing her symptoms and I am quite worried at this point. I would greatly appreciate any information you can provide.

Her main complaint immediately after leaving surgery was that she felt an electrical type of sensation throughout her body. She is also very weak and feels breathless. After having n...

petit mal seizures

I got my second defib implanted in sept of 09. Since then i've been having staring spells several times a day and bouts where i am disoriented several times a day. My neurologists told me these are petit mal seizures. She said she has three other patients with defibs that have these spells. These moments of disorientation are more like i will be in a completely familiar environment...such as my home...and i will have a few seconds of everything around me being unfamiliar. I wanted to know if thi...

How do I know whats right?

I am a 40 year old female and have had my pacemaker fitted for 10 days. During the Operation (implantation on the left hand side) i experienced a sharp strangling pain in the centre of my throat that spread to my right shoulder. I told the surgeon of this at the time and on discharge the following day was still experiencing pain in this area. During the day I experienced extreme pain in the right side of my neck and shoulder and attended my GP who thought it was tension due to the operation and...

Cont. "Just Get Used to it"

I have news.... This is a continuation of a post from earlier this week.

I heard from my EP today. She uploaded the information from the holter monitor and she has discovered that I have "A LOT" of PVC's. I appear to very sensitive to these extra beats and that is why I am distressed by them. She was certain that I am not experiencing A-fib. The only problem is that the PVC's can be a precursor to underlying heart aliments. The final result is that they are going to keep an eye on h...

afib with Adapta

I read a post here of someone who had a lot of Afib after their Adapta PM was put in. I am having the same problem. She said that after a year it went away by itself .Has anyone else had this problem and did you have to go on drugs or did it eventually stop. I believe having the PM put in caused the Afib to start. The lady in the post said that somewhere on Medtronics sight they mentioned that this could be a temporary problem. If anyone has more information please advise
thank you

Afib or "Just Palpations" Get Used to it?

Ok folks... I have been feeling rather poorly recently. I have been suffering with "weird" heart rhythms. It got so bad that I just drove myself to the cardio docs office on Monday. The mad beat, beat beat... was more than I could handle. It feels like my heartbeats are in my throat. Ugh. So the nurse checked me out by hooking me up to the computer and checked my HR. Yep, she says "you are in "Afib" printed the tape and hurried out of the room. She returned in about 5 min. Says to me... well it...

Lymphedema

Just wondering who out there has had Lymphedema and how have you treated it and does treatment help significantly or just a little? They say mine is related to the pacemaker pushing on my lymphatic system. It's not severe but hoping it wont get that way if treatments work. Thanks

Reaction to pacemaker?

I had my pacemaker implanted nearly 6 weeks ago, and still am experiencing unpleasant symptoms. About 12 hours after surgery, which went quite smoothly, I woke up feeling like someone had poured a whole urn of coffee in my i.v.

My head was pounding, my stomach hurt and was queasy, I had chills and hot flashes, the hair stood up on my head, I felt shaky, tense, and anxious. I had difficulty focusing, and sometimes even speaking, and for a few days, was subject to severe panic attacks...

I had my surgery at the beginning of November. I was feeling great, but am now catching all kinds of viruses. I teach first grade. Should I take a bit of time away from germs to let myself get some energy or is this just a fluke?

blood clot in arm after third implant

I read with interest a few postings from people who had blood clots in their arm after pacemaker, especially when dual leads were installed.I am on my third device since 1994 but this is the first time that the leads also needed to be replaced.I had no real complications on either of the last two implants and was unaware of a blood clot in my arm being a possible complication.I have full confidence in my surgeon and he has an excellent reputation in this area, I was just not aware that blood clo...

I have a medtronic adapta , am active and having symptoms of deep chest pain as I begin any walking. I am fine on my bicycle, and am a 100-150 mile per week rider, but any walking is very hard. I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.
