swelling, pain and redness

I have had my pacemaker for almost years with no problems. For the past couple of days I have and a cough related to an upper resp infections. Now my pacemaker site is swollen and tender. It turned red overnight and is a little warmer than the rest of my chest. The red area is about 4 times the size of the pacemaker. Could this be the result of internal abrasion because of the cough or is there something else going on. This is the first problem I have had with the pacemaker, other that th...

Huge Blood Clot on Pacemaker Wires

August of 2009, I had a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted.

November of 2010, my ankles were swollen and added lasix did not do the trick of reducing the swelling so an echocardiogram was ordered. In addition to it showing a weak right side of the heart (I already have a weak left side - CHF), the echo showed a huge blood clot (5.6 cm x 3.6 cm) in the right atrium of my heart, being kept stationary as it is wrapped around my pacemaker wires. I am fortunate that my right atrium has enla...

Articles to read

Hi all,

I need to read more about pacemaker and what it supposed to do.

My heart used to perform well when I am active and I do have problems and complications now 7 months after operation.

I need to know what is the normal pulse for example when lifting a box or going up the stairs as my performance with such activities is much worse than before the operation.

I still have swelling in my hand which I didn't use to have and BP associated with activitie...

Another newbie question or two

First, kudos to all who are a part of this club, you all provide more support than you all can possibly imagine. Thank you for all the wisdom. I do have a couple of concerns -- I have an Adapta PM implant on 8/25/10 and all seemed well. (I am a 50 year old female) Then, at the end of September/ beginning of October ended up with lots of SVT and had an ablation on 10/30/10. All seemed fine, until a few days ago when the SVT has re-emerged and seems stronger, more frightening and painful. Last...

Im waiting for my referral for the Mayo clinic but in the meantime I think Im going crazy... I am now experiencing new levels of sleep deprivation. Ever since my ablation, PM implant, and paralyzed phrenic nerve I haven't been able to lay flat. Now, two months later i've been able to accomodate my body for a little sleep...I sstill wake up numerous times every night in pain and struggling to breathe.
Tonight however, I went to bed but woke up gasping for air and in worse pain than child...

Sensitive

When I got paced and they interrogated me on the operating table I felt like they were electricuting me. I mean it was really bad. I was shaking like a fish out of water. The doctor and rep said they couldn’t believe I was feeling it. I have had it for 3 weeks tomorrow and I can still feel it when it paces me. Sometimes I wonder if this is the big one. I have afib and I still feel my heart race and when it does I can really feel it. When I went in for my 2 week check up the rep said she tu...

Shoulder pain

Hi
I have had my PM now for 13 weeks and have been back to my
cardiologist 3 times, and each time complained about shoulder pain, each time they said the PM was fine. I had no pain before the PM was put in.
This week I went to my Doctor who sent me for an x ray and ultrasound, they said I have a torn tendon in my shoulder. Could this be from the PM procedure?

Regards Roy

Ouch!

Had my relocation done yesterday and came home last night. They moved it down a bit under my chest muscle.

I am so thankful for the response to my prior post. I would never have been prepared for that pain. Yesterday was very rough but today is tolerable with pain meds. Thank you for all the suggestions. I did everything you all suggested and had I not received those suggestions I don't know how I would have made it through the day. Not being overly dramatic because it hurt so...

Scar Erosion

Hi everyone,

I am hoping someone can share their experience of having their PM moved from below their collar bone to under their chest muscle.

I have recently had unexplained weight loss (was thin to begin with) which has caused the scar from my PM to erode. I have been experiencing increased pain and tenderness at the site and decided to call my EP's nurse yesterday. My EP had me come in today. I did not know that the PM could completely break through the skin and the po...

Rejection

I am new to this site but have had an ICD since 11/2006. I have LQTS type 2 and Bradycardia. In 12/2008 I had to have my leads extracted due to breakage. I was just told that it appears that my body is rejecting the new leads. I have tried to research this online but have not found any helpful information. I was told by my cardiologist that if my body does reject the leads they will have to place pads on the outside of my heart. Has anyone else been told this? Does anyone else have a similar exp...

pinching between shoulder and pacemaker

Does anyone else have pinching between the shoulder and their pacemaker. I know that sounds like I am some kind of contorsionist but I have rheumatoid arthritis and any swelling of my shoulder causes some nerve or my meat to become pinched between the shoulder swelling and the pacemaker which in turn causes enough pain to cause me to vomit. I have lost 6 pounds since I returned to work on the 25th. I need to lose weight but this is not the way I want to do it. Is there anything I should be d...

Something Wrong?

Hello,
Last night as I was singing with the Women's choir I experienced the shortness of breath and also both my hands tingling again as I did last week. Here is a past post I submitted, I am hoping others can comment on it. Thank you

Why would I feel this tingling numbness in my hands? And can it be caused due to the faulty lead wire of the pacemaker?
