Got a question

Had a defibrillator implanted in Florida after a V-fib arrest. The device was tested on the table and didn't work (failed to convert induced V-fib) in four tries. Was discharged home to North Carolina after a few days with a device that had never been shown to work, and advised to consult an electrophysiologist ASAP. Two days later it began to fire although heart rate was in the 80's. Upon (emergency) evaluation the lead was noted to be displaced by 4 inches or more. Had to be redone. Did someon...

Sinus Tachycardia after Pacemaker

I'm a 31 year old woman who had a pacemaker fitted on 26th March this year (just over a week ago).

I had the pacemaker fitted on the advice of my cardiologist for intermittent second degree block, which was causing me some dizziness and palpitations, and tiredness because of it occuring especially during the night. I had a choice because my case was 'borderline', but my cardiologist thought I would be safer with the device.

The procedure seemed to go really well, apart fro...

Blood Pressure

I've been having some little spells while walking or upon standing up. These never occur while sitting or laying down. It feels like the top of my head wants to blow off and I become really dizzy. It also feels like strong pulses running though my ears.. They happen at irruglar times with no pattern. Sometimes I will have 3 or 4 a day and then sometimes none. I finally got my blood pressue taken during one of the spells and it was 156/96. Tthis is very high for me. I usually run around...

temp pacemaker

Thank you to all who responded to my recent post. Kind of scarey. I did go this am to see the surgeon. He took a culture and said that he needs to go in and have a look. He looked at the site and kept saying "this is really weird". that was so helpful. He said he would page the Infectious disease consultant and talk to my cardiologist, then one of them will call me to let me know when it will be done. They told me yesterday to stop the antibiotics, also Plavix, so I'm waiting. He thinks they...

New Pacemaker Recipient

At 65 years old, I just had a pacemaker implanted the end of February 2010. I'm just learning about my pacemaker. I have felt pretty good since receiving the pacemaker except when I sit down in my recliner or lay down. My heart flutters. I can work in the yard and do lots of physically active tasks and this does not happen. It is only when I sit or lay down. It is not constant but has lasted intermitently over an hour. I also have a pain in the middle of my back since the surgery that h...

Artificial Pacemakers

I may need to have my pacemaker and leads removed because of infection. Because I am pacemaker dependent, the doctor said I will need a temporary pacemaker until the infection is gone. Has this happened to any of you? Will I need to stay in the hospital during that whole time? My last infection took a month to clear up (I did not have the PM removed). I know I should have asked that at the appt this am and I will be going back tomorrow, but I wondered if anyone here knows.

infections?

I have had my pm for about a year and a half now, and am wondering if anyone else has had the problem I continue to have. My pacemaker site becomes red, warm, itchy, burning, and I get stabbing pains. This has happened several times since implantation. It took four surgeries to to get the leads in place and working without diaphram pacing, and after the fourth time, I did have a serious infection. After five days hospitalization and a month of IV antibiotics (I had a pic line at home) the inf...

Arm Pain

Am learning to use site, posted message in chat then saw it was wrong timing.
Since Def. installation 12/29/09, even after 5 wk restriction time, I cannot lift my left arm above my shoulder nor pull it backwards without extreme pain. Some other movements start the pain also. The pain in the "balljoint" feels like a nail being driven into it and the pain between the shoulder and elbow feels like the insides are being twisted, burning and pain.
The Dr. pushed very, very hard to get the...

accelerated junctional rhythm

I have a CRT device for heart failure. Lately I have been in and out of an accelerated junctional rhythm and have symptoms of dizzyness, blurred vision, and I can't walk far at all during these episodes. I know the accelerated junctional rhythm causes AV dysynchrony and that is probably whats going on with me.I have read that new devices are coming out, or are out, that have the capability to recognize and treat an accelerated junctional rhythm. Anyone have one of these new devices?

Tingling Sensation

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a tingling/stitch sensation around the heart area. I had my PM fitted 2 years ago and haven't had any problems at all till 3 days ago when I started to experience these. They aren't constant or servere, I'm not suffering any ill effects and my PM is still a constant 60 BPM.

I'm quiet active and run about 15 miles a week but I'm a bit wary of attempting this while I'm experiencing these sensations. I would go to my PM clinc...

Pacemaker mediated tachycardia

Hi,

I have had pacemaker problems since the end of November when they discovered a lead had moved. The voltage was turned up and the EP said it was fine. Unfortunatley since then I have been anything but fine.
I have congenital heart disease and a right systemic ventricle, I have developed symptoms of heart failure- breathlessness, fluid retention, exhaustion, difficulty lying down and a dilated ventricle, not to mention the tacycardia, feeling faint and chest pressure. Thankfull...
