I am 33 yrs. old and I got my pacemaker put in May 2006. Right after the sugery I felt chest pain and was told that I had an effusion. This went on for 6 weeks...they did an echo weekly and told me it would go away. I was very unfortable but hung in there thinking it would pass. Well it didn't, in July I had tampenade and almost died. They redid a wire that was loose and had to make a pericardial window in my heart tissue to drain the fluid, 16 oz.
I am writing this post because...

Also extreme pain in my neck...actually my carotid artery area...feels like someone hitting me there! It comes and goes and sometimes last maybe 10 mins to 1hr. Sometimes i ge...

I recieved a pm a month ago and have had nothing but discomfort. Doc. informed me yesterday that he feels that I do not have enough tissue, fat (45 yrs old and weigh 125lbs.) to protect the pm, hence the discomfort and sensitivity. He suggested putting the device under the muscle. Since I am only 5 weeks post op I am thinking that maybe the healing has not been completed and I should give it more time. Anyone else have similial experience. AMYMARLA

I had a dual-chamber Medtronics pacemaker implanted in November '06 after a symptomatic ER admission to a major Heartland hospital and a subsequent diagnosis of sick sinus syndrome. This "Adapta" pacemaker was reimplanted in the other side of my chest later that month following the onset of unusual, new symptoms which arose at home one week after the initial surgery. These symptoms included significant left jugular vein distension; frequent belching and hiccuping especially when the diste...

Learning to live with a pacemaker has been different for me to say the least. I initially contracted an infection where my pm was placed. Now that I'm passed that my shoulder is black and blue and the site of the pm is sensitve to the touch, should I be concerned? I'm also finding it very difficult to sleep. Some days I have good energy and other days I feel like my energy is just zapped. I have nureo cardiogenic vasalvega syncope. So does anyone have an opinion regarding my concerns? I'm...

Has anyone ever had a cath test? The Doctor said I am heathy so he knows that my heart will look ok, but he would like to know what it looks like inside. I have no reason for rythmatic problems( I am very heathy and only 30). So he would like to see if maybe I have scaring in my heart...or a reason for my heart problem. But I am scared to have this done. I will take any information that anyone has...the risk or maybe any good news about it:) Thank you

This is my first post as I only a month ago became a member of this elite group of people. Any thoughts on the possibility that the pm was placed in the wrong location, to close to the arm pit and in that muscle. A month later, I feel like the pm is resting in my arm pit, at least next to it. I can't cross my left arm across my chest. It is even uncomfortable to type on the computer in certain positions, need to be positioned toward the left. Everytime I use that muscle I feel it. Wearing a...

Hello,
I've been feeling better with the blood pressure medicine. However I have this tightening of my chest. It comes and goes and it's at the top of my chest right in the center. My neck and shoulder are so tense. My blood pressure is reading 120/80 and I've breathing okay. Can this be a sign for heart blockage and what should I do if it continues to get worse. I called my Doctor's office and he said it sounds like anxiety. Is there anyone who can write to me about this m...

Hi y'all,
Has anyone ever had swelling and numbness down the left arm? This feels a lot like when I had the superior vena cava blockage, but this is only my left arm. Also, my pacemaker pocket has been opened 3 times in the last 5 years, and now where there used to be a bulge and I could feel the outline of the pacer, there is now a large indentation where the pacemaker used to be and the pacemaker can be felt way over to the side. Can it move? Thanks for any thoughts. Bambi

Hello:
Before I needed a pacemaker my resting heartrate was 60. Then I went into double block - my heart would beat 70-80 to get to 45. Now I had my pacemaker installed 3 days ago and I've been staying in the 75-80 range. Will my rate go back down to 60 again?
Thanks.

My 73 year old father was diagnosed with a 3rd degree blcok and had a pacemaker put in 4 days ago. He's now complaining the he feels "funny" - especially in his head. About a year ago, the doctors found an aneurysm in his frontal lobe. I was looking on the internet for information on how one feels - physically - after receiving a pacemaker and I am not finding anything that outlines his symptoms. I did, however, find an article outlining that there may be an increased risk of stroke after rec...

Wow! I can't believe the kinks seem to be worked out with the posting problems I was having! I have been so impressed with the members on this site- your warmth, sincerity, and support you give one another. I had my first pacemaker implanted in 2001, following years of trying to control my a number of arrhythmias with medication, and 3 ablations. Two weeks following my implantation, I went to the emergency room with severe swelling of my neck and face. After determining that there was nothing...

On Dec. 1st, 06 i had a dual lead medtronic pacemaker put in. It works just fine as far as my heart is concerned, ( used to beat 30 to per min., now in 60's and 70's) problemis ever since the surgery my left upper chest to my shoulder has quite a bit of pain and my left arm has lost probably 75% usage. my heart doc said sometimes it takes awhile to get used to it, the second time i went to complain, he said the pacemaker is fine and i would need to see another doctor for the symptoms, even thoug...
