4 Kilometer race

Has anybody tried running a four kilometer race with a pacemaker? It is part of the Cochin Marathon (for those aged above 60 years). I would like to try.

Push ups & Pull ups

I'm 14 now and I got my pacemaker when I was 7 so I've had it almost all my life, now that I'm in high school my pe teacher needs to know what I can and can't do. I have NEVER EVER done push ups or pull ups in my life EVER. My doctor recently sent a note saying I CAN do both push ups & pull ups. I'm really worried because I don't lift upper body, I'm scared that it will feel weird. My doc. says I shouldn't do many( no more than 10). I will get my battery changed this fall so I wouldn't be doing...

PM Guards.

Hi all,
I've looked at Paceguard but does anyone know of any others? Seems rather expensive, well actually VERY expensive for what it is, combine that with Paceguard being USA based so can't even look at it before I commit to buying and shipping to UK.
Basically I'm looking at starting some martial arts soon...and I know I'll get the "but you have a PM and what if it gets knocked?" comments... i just need something to give me that extra confidence.
Evoshield does the recoil pad...

whole body vibration

Hi
Do any of you have any experience or advice on using a "whole body vibration" machine? I was at a home show and was quite impressed with what they can do but wonder about using one if you have a pacemaker. The distributor did not seem to know. Thanks for any help and information.

Hot Air Ballooning with a pacemaker

Has anyone here with a pacemaker been hot air ballooning?
It's something I'd like to do, I've asked two cardiologists if it should be OK, one said Yes and one said No as there could be risks on landing if it's exceptionally bumpy. I'd love to know if anyone has had this experience.

Total Gym XLS

I am 3 weeks post op (05SEP11) and the nurse I saw for my two week followup told me NO Total Gym for upper body exercise! I am still in shock as this was never mentioned prior to the implant. Are there any folks out there that use a Total Gym and do upper body workouts, and if so can you provide me some ideas on cards used, or specifics (not that I will overdo it). I just want/need to get back on track before I end up back to square one.

Thanks for any input as I am new to this new li...

Medtronics Ensura Diving

Hi, I have a shiny new Medtronics Ensura implant. It's only been in 24 hours but I'm already trying to find depth ratings for it. I'd be very happy to return to a little blue warm water scuba. I've never been much of a depth freak - most of the creatures that I'd like to photograph are near the surface.

Push ups

I have a dual lead PM which was implanted 4 months ago. I am now finally getting back to exercising. I've gained about 10 lbs and am very flabby! However, today I took a yoga class and noticed that a lot of the moves are in the "downward dog" position. This movement puts a lot of pressure on my arms, chest, and shoulders. Do you think it's okay to sustain these moves?
I'm also wondering if it's okay to do push-ups. Thanks.

exercise and heart rate

Had the Pm checked today. Despite very, very hard cardio I can't get my heart rate above 100. The tech told me that is because the PM is movement sensitive--if i sit on a recumbent bike or a smooth elleptical my heart rate woin't increase. I jogged in place and got my heart rate to 128.

So is exercising on low impat machines not training my heart? Do i need to jog, use the treadmill???

advice please.

Triathlon & Pacemakers

Hi All. I'm new to this forum and just wanted to find out if there are any triathlete's out there competing with a pacemaker. I am scheduled to have mine next week and I'm desperate to get back to my exercise and very hopeful that I can return to the level I was before I started experiencing heart issues (Feb this year).

As a background: I was firstly diagnosed with RVOT-VT, which was ablated in June, however during the lead up to the ablation I had some other weird episodes that...

Obtaining my data from Merlin

I have a Merlin reader that transmits pacemaker data to corporation, then to cardiologist.

Today at cardiologist, I grabbed a printout. It has daily graphs of percent time a various levels of exercise.

Asked the nurse if there is some way for me to get this info on a regular basis, and was told "no" due to confidentiality.

Now this info would be ideal coupled with my daily exercise notes on swimming and walking.

How do I get the data? I don't need all...

Heart Rate Moniters

Hi,

I would like to get some feed back on heart rate moniters. I want to start racing bikes and heart rate is very important. Called Medtronic and they suggested a finger moniter. I do not see that working. Anyone out there had luck with a chest strap moniter?

Breathing Issues - Can They Be PM Related

Hey, looking for some input. I have had a PM for about 2 yrs for 2nd degree heart block (dual lead). For the last yr or so I have had issues with breathing (catching my breath, shortness of breath, asthma symptoms). Question is can my pacemaker be causing some of the problems. I play hockey and have found that raising my upper limit to 170 has helped significantly with the catching my breath issue. I still don't have the endurance I had in the past. The latest symptom that concerns me is...

Traveling to Colorado, Elevation?

Hello everyone! Hope you are all doing well. I just booked a trip to Colorado for next month and am very excited. I'm currently living in flat Florida so I'm a little nervous about how the elevation will affect me. Our second day we plan on biking down Pike's Peak which is an elevation of 14,000ft... I called the company to see how people react to the elevation and they mentioned those with heart conditions feel the difference more. I know to drink a lot of water but any other tips? I just want...

Pacemaker with No Boundaries!

I read a lot of the comments on here posted with people with PM's, most of them are somewhat negative. I am here to provide only positive PM comments!

I have had my PM for a year, I am 69 and also recently had a spinal implant operation for stenosis as well and I am slowly becoming another bionic man.

All I can say is that I was a triathlete for 20 years and developed A-fib when I was 65. The PM implant was to suppress the A-fib occurrences and it has mitigated them conside...

Can I play football (soccer) ?

Hello there,

I am desperately seeking advice on some kind of protection for when I play football.

I've checked online and it seems to have come down to two products.

1) Evoshield Shooting Shirt priced at 89.99 euros.
or
2) The USA Paceguard priced at $125

Which one would be best? I've also checked out Rugby Protection but that seems to be just foamy style padding.

Can I play again? I usually play two 90min matches per week and I pl...

I am a fitness fanatic

hi, I have junctional brai cardia and the doctors have advised I have a pacemaker fitted as by hr 35-45 is. I work out regularily, combination of yoga, cardio and swiiming. The Doctor said I was borderline and that it woudl be better to have a pacemaker. I told him that I woudl aggree only if I can contunie to do the same level of intense workouts. ~He said that would not be a problem so long as I did want to build my chest musckles as the leads could fray. I have been put on a waiting list and...

I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.
