Multiple Questions

Hello everyone

I am finding this site an amazing source of information and reassurance. I have now had my PM for just ovr 2 weeks and have already had it reset twice - initially DDD but now in VVI mode because I had a lot of ectopics and the PM would fire off causing uncomfortable sensations in my chest. I am now symptom free but have been left in a rather anxious state generally and finding new things to worry about!

The first relates to how much activity I can d...

Battery End of Life and Safety Mode

I had originally posted this as a response to another person with a battery concern. I am reposting to the general battery forum since it seems to pertain to some other posters.

I am now at 3 months before my battery end of life. I have a Medtronic dual chamber for bradycardia and other issues. I pace 95% of the time in one atrium and 45-55% in the other. I have it set to adjust to pace more/at a higher rate when I am exercising (called adjustable mode, I think). This will be my fi...

Tricuspid Valve Repair - Regurgitation caused by PM Wire

Hey everyone,

I read some of the previous forms around this but couldn't find any recent ones. I was wondering if anyone has any experience getting a valve repair? I haven't been able to find as much online about a repair vs a replacement. I am mainly curious about recovery and the patient experience.  I have had to get a wire removed before and it was brutal for me, but I have never had a valve issue until now. So mostly just trying to figure out what to expect.

GENERAL CHECK UP

Hi all, hope everyone had a nice holiday. I recently saw my EP for a general check up and he changed the settings on my pacemaker from 55 to 60 which he then told me was normal. My last EP who since retired had my pacemaker set on 55 to save life on the battery. I dont know if its me or the higher setting but I feel im not sleeping the whole night and feel my heart more so since he raised the BPM. I was wondering if I should say anything or give it some time> my check up was 2 weeks ago.

Today i recieved an email saying someone had posted a comment to my query of "vaccine".  Knew that was an old one looked it was from Oct.  Did PM that person  and suggested  that they post in the forum their question.  So that aothers would see and give answers.  As we do not generally look at ours or other old posts.  Nor at this point our  we notified about someone posting to an old query except the poster.

Heart rate with a new pm

First I'm 77, and do the treadmill every day at 2.5 mph.  Ok, no speed demon here. I had a St. Jude pm and routinely had a heart rate on the treadmill of 125 to 133. Two years ago I had it replaced with a Boston Scientific pm. Now my heart rate only goes up to 110 with the same speed of 2.5 mph. Is this a pm adjustment issue?

Help with AFIB I don't know what to ask for

I was diagnosed with sick sinus node syndrome and AFIB April of 2023 and recieved a pacemaker September 1, 2023.

Prior to the pacemaker implant I was taking 40mg lisinopril nightly. I complained of what I thought was cardiac cough and the cardiac nurse switched me to losartan potassium 50mg.

I had issues with this medicine (see note to follow) and then she switched me to clonidine .1mg which I also had problems with. At this point I told her I would rather take lisonpril and cough...

Stupid Magnets

Hello! I'm new. I tried Joining 526236 times before and it never let me verify. But then I was like "what if my long name is the problem!?" And I was right!

So to celebrate I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I am a 35 yo dude who has a problem with passing out due to Vasovagal Syncope which is caused by a cocktail of conditions under the Disautonomia Family. I got my pacemaker installed the day before Thanksgiving, and I can almost sleep ony left side again. I a...

General Anesthetic

Hi I'm new to the site

I had a pacemaker and ablation surgery 18 month ago and now I have got to have surgery on my shoulder.  I'm worried about having it done the first private hospital said it could not do it but I have found one that says it can. Can any one tell me if they have had surgery after having pacemaker and ablation surgery and what the risks are.

Boston Scientific Accolade Exercise Settings

I  enquired ( by e-mail)  from my hospital pacemaker physiologists  whether I could get  some relief from breathlessness on exercise initiation, which remains a problem for stairs, lifting, and the start of length swimming etc. Her kind response is the following:

"I am more than happy to look at your rate response again .I am aware of the Boston literature; however my personal experience is that the main benefit is in patients whose only form of exerci...

I Sometimes Have Panic Attacks Now

Hello fellow club members!

I just wanted to talk about a tough experience I'm having. I hope others can read about it and not feel alone with similar experiences.

I got my first pacemaker about 1 1/2 years ago, after suddenly beginning to wake up in the middle of the night feeling sick, only to pass out within a few minutes. This turned out to be due to vasovagal syncope with asystole, trigger unknown.

The first time it happened I thought it was just a fluke, maybe...

Pulse Oximeter Update

I have previously mentioned my low pulse readings from my Finger Oximeter. The explanation was the  PVC’s were giving false readings for my pulse. I was advised not to use this device, fair enough. My EP and his Tech both proved my pacemaker was working properly with the minimum setting of 60 bpm.

At my last visit I was given a prescription for Flecainide to calm down the PVC’s, this works by blocking Sodium Channels and slowing down the electricity. I have been o...

Rehabilitation from Thrombosis

Hi Everyone

I have written a couple times on this excellent forum and would just like to ask for some advice on rehabilitating from Deep Vein Thrombosis.

It's been 18 days since I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my Subclavical vein, at the site of the entry of the leads of my Pacemaker. This happened 6 weeks post operation. I initially injected Hibor (Heparin) for 2 weeks and then I was thankfully moved onto Apixaban. I was offered the choice of Warfarin or A...

5 months to battery replacement

Good evening everyone,  my 1st replacement is coming due in 5 months.  It will have lasted 12 years!  My current Meditronic device is for bradycardia and the ventricle paces 78% and the atria 1%.

As each month passes, am I going to notice the wearing down of the battery?  I know that when it does happen finally change, the atria will pace my heart at 65 beats.

Thanks yall,

Natalie

Pacemaker recipient since birth

Hi, my name is Aletheia.  I just turned 19, but I was given my first pacemaker at 3 days old in 2004.  I also had heart failure shortly after that.  I'm also on several heart meds.  A couple of years ago one of my leads broke and I got a new three lead pacemaker.  That new pacermaker has helped my heart a lot and I've gone from moderate to severe heart failure to mild.  My life is pretty normal except for the fact that I have never been able to be in PE o...

New to AFIB

Had my pacemaker implanted in 2014 with no problems to date.  Within the past year during interrogation, they have noted a concerning amount of AFIB lasting very short periods.  My last interrogation they found over 1300 incidents of AFIB.  Approx.800 or so were again for very short periods of time,  another 200 were lasting up to 10 minutes, and the one which concerned them the most was one lasting 45 minutes.  Since I'm not up to all the terminology used the bes...

Daughter needs a pacemaker

Hello, my name is Lucas. My wife and I recently welcomed our daughter who was born prematurely at 35 weeks. She was diagnosed with complete heart block at 21 weeks in utero, and since her birth, her heart rate has not increased as we had hoped. She was given a temporary pacemaker and is currently supported by high flow nasal oxygen for breathing, having progressed from an initial breathing tube and CPAP.

Our medical team is planning for her to receive a permanent pacemaker. They have su...
