I JUST GOT MY PACEMAKER A WEEK AGO

With my jewelry making I wonder am I safe to use a Dremmel to drill my polished stones? Also, I use CPAP and sometimes feel the electrical vibrations through my chest. Is that o.k? How about my cordless house phone? I already know about cell phones.

New Pacemaker Recipient

At 65 years old, I just had a pacemaker implanted the end of February 2010. I'm just learning about my pacemaker. I have felt pretty good since receiving the pacemaker except when I sit down in my recliner or lay down. My heart flutters. I can work in the yard and do lots of physically active tasks and this does not happen. It is only when I sit or lay down. It is not constant but has lasted intermitently over an hour. I also have a pain in the middle of my back since the surgery that h...

Heart Rate Response

I've been fatigued for about 6 wks now and can feel like I'm about to get completely out of breath several times a day with or w/o activity. Had appt with doc yesterday, they interrogated my pacemaker, it is working fine. They said I have one of the few PMs that has the ability to change the heart rate response -- they upped my heart rate response timing and I cannot get over how great I feel. I have probably told hubby 20 times that I didn't realize just how yucky I felt until they did that...

Diltiazem

Doc just prescribed Diltiazem tablets, 120mg for me to control spikes in heart rate. Is anyone else on this med and if so any side effects? I've already research online and know would/could be different for each person but just looking for input from those that actually take med.
Thanks

Peggy

MEDIC ALERT

Just want to remind those who would like to have a medical identification bracelet but who maybe financially unable to purchase one, Medic Alert has a sponsorship program for those who qualify. Please contact them for an application to see if you meet the qualifications. I think it is important for all of us with pacemakers and other devices or medical conditions to be protected.

Have a Happy Easter all. I hope this information helps.

Getting better

Hi everyone,
It is so nice to finally be able to write this. I'm finally getting better. My white cell count is fluctuating a lot, but they have me on antibiotics and my leg is healing very nicely. It has been a week since my graft surgery and the leg looks great. I got a chance to see it this morning when they changed the bandage and it looks almost normal. I start physio on Monday. I'm off the morphine which feels really good. I haven't had any fevers in a few days.

I did want...

Finally!!!!!

Well it's been one heck of a week here but I finally bailed out the basement. The water stopped coming in this afternoon. I have a ton of cleanup but at least I'm drying out. Carolyn65 will be happy to know I was able to save the bar. They said this flooding happens every 200 years. With my luck I'll be the longest paced human being with 201 years. One thing I found out through this whole ordeal is I never skipped a beat. I didn't have any episodes of A-Fib or irregular beats even though...

Update on Pookie

Hi Everyone.

First, a HUGE Thank You to everyone who has responded here or to my personal email .... your support is overwhelming and there are NO words to truly express just how lucky I am to have such great support :)

I did go to the Walk In Clinic on Wednesday evening as my husband, Lloyd, was extremely concerned about the size of my neck/throat swelling ... as I had had my surgery on March 25th and it was getting bigger and bigger & I was having more and more pain...

The sun

Hi everyone. Hope everybody is doing good. I had my pacemaker implanted on Feb. 4, 2010 and I am doing good. Just some pain in shoulder and still a little tenderness at the incision site. Throat pain is gone!! I do have a question. I want to take my kids to the beach. Is it safe to be out in the sun for long periods of time with a pacemaker? Sorry if that seems like a dumb question but I am new to the pacemaker and was worried about it.
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

MRSA in pacemaker site

I just spent 28 days in the hospital. I wound up with MRSA in my pacemaker site. After fighting the infection for a week I had to have the pacemaker removed. I had also had epicardial sinus lead placement, so they were really worried about the infection traveling right to my heart. Luckily that didn't happen. I have gotten a new pacemaker/defib on the right side now. They just put it in Tues. I went into the hospital March 5th. Sure was good to get home yesterday. They were unable to pl...

Artificial Pacemakers

I may need to have my pacemaker and leads removed because of infection. Because I am pacemaker dependent, the doctor said I will need a temporary pacemaker until the infection is gone. Has this happened to any of you? Will I need to stay in the hospital during that whole time? My last infection took a month to clear up (I did not have the PM removed). I know I should have asked that at the appt this am and I will be going back tomorrow, but I wondered if anyone here knows.

Just got accepted into Nursing School!

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to share some thrilling news that I just recently found out about. I got accepted into nursing school!!. Ever since I got my pm I have wanted to help others that suffer from cardiac problemsI think it would be so NEAT to be a pacemaker/ICD nurse that genuinely understands what the patient is going through. Just though I'd share! :)

Hi Everyone,
May be this was discussed on this forum before. I am curious to know the impact the new airport fully body scanners may have on ICDs. I am sort of concerned. I'll be traveling shortly and wanted to be sure. Thanks.

A special thank to Qverty, Wenditt, the fish, Ro, Dwight, Thomas and Carolyn65 for your so kind answers. Hospital regulations require a wheel chair for patients being discharged. While working as a CNA, I found one elderly gentleman already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet, who insisted he didn't need my help to leave the hospital. After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him to the elevator. On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him.

'Oh yes, in a few minutes but she's still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her...

Arm & shoulder pain/ post ICD

Several times since my ICD implantation (1/20/10) I've seen posts here where someone is experiencing arm or shoulder pain. I was feeling pain there too, but I thought it was just part of the usual surgical discomfort. Some time has lapsed and both of my shoulders hurt, but the right (ICD side) is much worse. It definitely is not related to the incision and feels as if my shoulder is slightly dislocated, if that makes sense?? It hurts to lift my arm above the shoulder, to turn the steering wheel...

house work and yard work

Hi
Can anyone enlighten me as to when and what I can do as far as housework (vacuuming) and yardwork (lawnmowing) etc. I can't seem to get a good answer from the Docs. I am 2 weeks now since implant and feel like I could do this stuff. Thanks

depression

Hi all
Is it normal to experience some depression 2 weeks after PM implant? The last day or two I just can't seem to shake it. Also, has anyone any thoughts on drinking coffee in the morning giving you feelings of weakness and arm tingling? Just trying to figure out what is going on with me. For the most part I think I am doing okay. Thanks
Howard

A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.
