heh, go figure

Well, I don't know when exactly it happened, but it was sometime this week. At some point during this past week, I stopped hating my pacemaker. Now, I'm not saying that I like the little turd, but the urge to cut it out is no longer there. I guess it just comes with the realization that without it, I would be dead by now. Either way, over the last couple days, when I think about it, I actually don't get depressed about it anymore, it just is what it is. Just wanted to update ya'll as so man...

New ICD

I got my ICD put in a week ago. Can anyone tell me about how long the site will be sore? I am so scared I will do something to mess it up. I also have other problems that make it hard for me to stand without using my arms. The doctor said I could push just not lift but I am still scared. I also read where a gal had a panic attack on here. I did that too and looked on paper had 3 of symptoms so went to hospital after calling. That is all they could figure out it was. This is all so new to me I am...

lead removal

I have an atrial lead that is bad( impedance has gone up significantly) and has to be replaced.. Has anyone else had this procedure done? My lead is 13 years old and I am expecting the doc will use a laser to remove it . Any insights about the removal procedure? Thanks

Impedance

Frank, Smitty, or Inga... can you explain impedance to me? I know it goes up at the end of battery life but don't understand what it is. My report today says 6-9 months battery life left but the tech said it'll be more like 2-4 mos since the impedance jumped from 2 to 6 this check. I go back in Jan and plan to ask to have it replaced at that time (Jan is not as busy as March and April, lol)

A Big Thanks...and a Long Story

To all of you that have helped me through...thank you. I am 10 weeks post implant today and am getting better. I am still having desperate/high anxiety moments (as I did last night). And thank you to those who checked in with me last night to help me get through it. Knowing that there is a support system here helps and my appreciation goes deeper than I could ever tell you.

I called the EP office today and to my dismay was completely blown off by the nurse practitioner whom I asked to...

As I recall.........

or more aptly as medtronics recalls - my recalled lead snapped last week end - ( the only symptom being the defibrillator firing harder than normal, but thankfully just once. Monday (when the pacer interogation revealed the condition of the lead) I found myself going to the hospital instead of to work. 15 hours later I was home - with a new unit and lead. The medtronics rep says they will pay $2000 towards the replacement cost - Has any one out there dealt with medtronics to recoup costs...

all new reference points

Hi Everyone,

This my first contact I have had since my surgury 2wks ago. I talked to family and friends about how I feel totally different. I feel like II finally and maybe for the first time. Looking in hindsight I may have started to have this as a teen but since it wasn't constant and only slightly a problem (ya only slightly< hmmph)I wasn't even checked for it. My friends laughed at me for walking as if drunk and having to look down at my feet to walk. For about a decade I thought...

Work in powerplant

I was searching trying to find information on ICD/pacemakers and electrical generating plants.

I will be getting a ICD/pacemaker in a few weeks. My job requires me to be in large hydroelectric poweplants. I do not work on the generators but are around them. I asked my doctor about this and he said he wasn't sure but the manufacturer should know. I have no idea who the manufacturer will be. Anyone have any info on this?

Thanks

SMITTY: Thanks for your "comments" and visual of the pacemaker and wires on 11/8/09. Even my cardiologist did not show that. The pacemaker visual was really plain and simple to read. Hope your "energizer bunny" is doing ok since your new battery.

Salado, Texas, is like a "winter wonderland" during the holidays I have been told. A lot going on there with Christmas decorations with a lot of lights. I hear people drive from all over the country to see Salado during the Christmas ho...

What to Expect

Had my pacemaker for 3 months now (dual lead) for 2nd degree heart block. I'm luckily back to golf and started playing hockey again. I feel great but I am now thinking about what is next. Is it typical for this condition to get worse and progress into 3rd degree heart block where I will become totally dependent on the PM.

Too scared to sleep again

I was sitting here on the couch when I could feel an episode start to come on. It's really the first one I have felt since the pm. I felt my pulse and I couldn't count it but it was super slow. Then it slowly got faster. So I am guessing the pm kicked in.

But I got like a hot flash, my palms got all sweaty and my brow. Was that the panic part?

Husband working midnights tonight so I am alone with the baby all night again. That freaks me out too. Took a Xanax but not really h...

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
