New to the game

Hi all.

Just got fitted with a pacemaker last Friday after crashing my car after blacking out. Second episode in the emergency room gave doctors all the info they needed and I got my pacemaker the next morning. A bit scared. A bit worried about what to expect in life now. I am a 53 year old, very active woman who rides horses and is an avid vegetable gardener. Worried that I won't be able to do these thing anymore. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

contemplating getting a pace maker

I am a nineteen year old contemplating getting a pacemaker. I have Neaurocardiogenic Syncope (Vasovagal syncope). Since grade school I have passed out countless times and undergone all the various tests and medications. I experienced severe side effects and was not able to tolerate the meds.
Recently, my passing out became more frequent. I am a competitive swimmer. My passing out has inhibited me from competing. After nearly passing out in the water during a race the trainers and te...

so confused... failure to pace due to lead

Ok so I am sooooo confused. I had a dual chamber pacemaker put in on June 11. This last wednesday they went in and did the AV node ablation. So here I sit, saturday, still in the hospital. Why you ask???? Because I am having failure of capture when I lay on my right side. It is only a beat here and there. They have been changing my settings around to try and adjust for it and make my voltage high. But now my physician has left for vacation and his intent was to discharge me. Me I am th...

One year on

It's now one year to the day since I had my pacemaker implanted. In all that time I haven't had one bit of trouble and almost all of the time I forget that the thing is even there. I get my pacemaker checked in a simple, painless procedure and that's it. My scar healed up very quickly, I had the op in the school summer holidays and I was back at my desk for the new term starting just over two weeks later. I do have a small card to carry but this is a very small price to pay. Good luck to everyon...

Are you Disabled ???????

Do you define yourself as disabled because you have a PM ?

I never considered it before, but I recently had an occupational health medical and the nurse said 'Oh you have a PM' well that is a disability.

Her logic was, if it was removed tomorrow could you undertake a full life with normal activities?

So, looking at it that way the I presume we are classed as disabled.

A lot of companies in the UK now advertise vacancies, that guarantee an interview if...

Sudden pulsating sensation-END

Hi fellow PMs:

After going to 2 first assistance doctors, I finally went to Barcelona Saint Georges Heart Center, where I had my PM implanted. They said that this pulsating pectoral muscle, while not comon, had found to happen every now and then. They fine tuned the settings of a lead (from bipolar to monopolar -whatever it is-) and that was the end of it.
Thanks to all that have answered.
Cheers.

My Friend

Hi everyone... I once again want to ask for some good thoughts... but not for me. This time it is for my friend Sharon. She is scheduled to have her pacemaker replaced on Monday morning. I'm not worried about her, but I am concerned. It is surgery and it is going to hurt. She is my friend and so it is important that I can tell her that we are all pulling for her. That we are thinking of her. I hope she will one day join us here. She is such a smart and funny lady. Plus, she has a pacemaker too!...

Golf- yeah baby!

I played nine holes today with some friends, and was surprised to find the following things out:

-I did not DIE from a lead dislocation or other complication
-I did not suffer from PACs during the round
-I had no pain in my incision site
-I beat people who golf on a regular basis
-My life is not over, contrary to popular opinion...

Anyone out there who is feeling like things won't get better - THEY WILL. I had a PM implant in April, and had some issues...

Excess L:ead

Hi,
After I had my pacemaker installed (May 4) I noticed that to the left of the pacemaker there was excess lead wire on the shoulder area. After a few weeks of being able to move my arm around more I noticed that I don't feel the excess lead wires there anymore. Are those wires put there so you have the extra length for when you start using your arm again?

Thanks
Stacey

can anyone give me any advice???

Hi, My 9 yr old son has had his pacemaker since he was 2, His consultant has decided he leads are now becoming short and will need his pacemaker either taken out or replaced. because he was so young and small at age 2 they had to fit him with a small pacemaker that could not tell us any information weather he relys on it or not. His consultant believes some children grow out of heart problems. Which would be nice. They have now decided to turn his pacemaker down from 60 to 45, Which i am fine w...

Cardiac syncope

Hello friends
I have not been on here for a while due to my computer falling sick on me and had to be doctored he he, but my son has now been diagnosed with Cardiac syncope. He has to have a Reveal Monitor inserted in 3 weeks time, but after 5 years of feeling poorly and a leaking heart valve, he is just about ready to give up, at the young age of 38 years. Lost caravan

Somewhere between here and there, I've managed to lose 3 people. I know I don't walk that fast, but dang do ya'll think that you could at least try to keep up?
The last I saw them, and let me tell you, it's the funniest sight:
Before I lost them we were all walking together on the desert trail, but they quickly began to whine and cry, carrying-on about the heat. Loopy was crying because her make-up was smearing, and Tracey had endless thirst. Together they kept whining, "Are we there...
