Interference

Im not sure if this is under the right heading, but here is another question.

Transformer, not the movie or robot lol but the up on the pole.
How much interference does one of those puppies put out.

We are set up in a campground for a few months and parked right under one. We are only about 30 feet from the transformer at any time we are in the camper.

Shoud we pack it up and move or is it safe to sit here?

iPacer

How long will be be before Apple jumps into the growing pacemaker market and comes out with the iPacer. Think about it... a little touchscreen on your chest where you can not only set your own pacemaker settings but also play iTunes, never be lost again because it has a GPS (and the ambulance knows where to find you if you run into a problem), dials the doctor whenever it or you have a question... any other ideas on what to have in it.

Any suggestions?

My pm was put in because of total av block 1,5 years ago, but the reason for the block remains unknown. The doctors tested a lot of things including hemocromatosis, lyme's disease, sarcoidosis, dcm, connective tissue diseases, systemic (or systematic, don't know the correct term in english) diseases and rheumatic diseases, but everything was (fortunately) negative. I was wondering if anyone has initially had a block for unknown reason and found out the reason later (if so, what was it?), or has...

Mammogram

I just came from my mammogram test. It seems like everytime I go there is a problem. Anyway, the tech seem surprise at how to deal with someone with a pacemaker. She ask, "can I put pressure on the pacemaker" ? I said no way....I did not see her point when my chest is alot further down. My location of the pacemaker is upper left chest. So, what gives ???? If anyone could give me advice or opinions on having a mammogram with a pacemaker. Thank you the great pacemaker club !

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi, I am new to here and just read from a member about having laser eye surgery. I have just been given the run around by Ultralase. I asked before booking my consultation whether it would be ok to take place if I had a pacemaker and was told this was no problem. Once I arrived they said they couldn't even consider it because of their insurances and the surgeon wouldn't take the risk. I am not dependent upon my pacemaker as I have vasavagal syncope and I am very lucky as my heart is in good...

Wind turbines

Has anyone had the experience of pacemaker disturbance when near a wind turbine? Our local hotel has one and I have to drive past quite often. At night especially I freqyuently experience a faster heart rate and thumping that is almost painful when I drive past. It takes a couple of minutes to settle down. I don't think i am imagining it, as even when we are absorbed in conversation and I don't note that we are near it, I will still feel the discomfort. I can't find anything by searching th...

my heart history

I just want each one to know that I have had heart disease since 1991. I have had two heart surgeries and received a pig valve on the last surgery. Last Dec. 09 I passed out as i was getting ready for church. I was in heart block. Came near dying but my home town Dr. is great and put in a temporary pace maker. I was rushed to a larger hospital and turned over to a team of cadriologist. I came home with pacemaker and defibrillator. I am ok but I know my life will never be the same. I have trouble...

Ablation

I am having an epicardial ablation on Thursday. I would appreciate any input that anyone has on this procedure. This will be my 5th ablation, but the first one that will be done epicardially.

I am getting pretty anxious about the procedure. I know that everything will be fine, but I just can't get it out of my mind.

Thanks,
Amanda

low battery

last month my heart doctor mentioned my battery was getting low and will need replacement in about 6 months. He left before I could get some questions resolved. I think the battery was at 2.6 but not sure. It never went off thank God . I have atrial fib so thats draining the battery 3 years on this one. My last pacemaker went 8 years but didnt have the extra wire for atrial fib.
How will I know physically it's time to get it replaced ? Right now I dont have much energy and taking a 30 minut...

life insurance

Does anyone know where I can get term life insurance? I have a policy that will expire in about 5 years -- I have tried to purchase another one -- but most insurance companies place an extremely high premium once they find out I have a PM (strange since I am now healthier than before the implant). Any info will be appreciated. Larry

Christmas in July!

I kid you not; last night, it was 63 degrees Farenheight!!!!!!!!!!!! That feels like 53 to me! And when we were watching fireworks the other night, I was bundled up in a sweatshirt (UVa, of course!), sweatpants, big fuzzy slippers, a comforter, and coffee. IDK what this is, but it needs to be FIXED! Well, now I think my blood pressure is up to normal. :) Anyway, I am NOT going to be late with this week's QOTW!! So here it is:

"The doctor must have put my pacemaker in wrong. Every time...

Friends... Regarding the Member Gallery

I would like to ask that you please, please say who it is you are, when posting your pictures in the Member gallery.

There are so many wonderful pictures posted that have no descriptions. I have no idea who you are. I would love to say that there is a fantastic looking rock star or water baby but I don't know who you are.

You all look wonderfully alive and I would love to give credit where credit is due.

SVT and potassium

Has anyone here used potassium or a potassium enriched diet to combat SVT's? I had been attempting to take magnesium which has reportedly helped with SVT's, but never did a dang thing for me.

I have eaten a banana or more a day for over a week, and I the boosted potassium levels seem like they are helping? Just curious if this is a coincidence, but I have read that potassium and magnesium both can help regulate the heart's electrical system.

Thanks

Posting for my mom

Hi everyone,
I am so glad i was able to find a forum for people living with a PM. I joined here because my mom who's 65, was rushed to the hospital on July 3rd with severe dizziness and shortness of breath out of nowhere. She needed up needing a PM and had an emergency procedure done at midnight.

Shes home (7/6) now but she's feeling depressed and really worried over having a PM and how she has to rely on one now. My sister and i have tried everything we can to help her stay p...
