High heart rate after surgery

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm new to the club however I've been reading hundreds of posts on this site in the last month and a half and found many answers that several cardioligists could not answer. I have another question that I couldn't find an answer and would appreciate som input if anyone else has experienced it. I had aortic valve replacement and double by-pass surgery on Feb 3 2009. After the surgery I ended up with100% av block so I was implanted with PM which is tracking...

Is my pacing off?

Hi all...
So glad to find someone to talk to about the issues that come with having a PM running my heart!
I am a 48 y/o female who has managed to lose 90 lbs over 3 years simply by determination, exercise, sweat & tears. I am an avid spinner, spinning a minimum of 4 days a week and doing cardio/strength on off day. I was diagnosed with AF in 2000 and have undergone 3 ablations; the last being in 12/08 with a successful flutter elimination. I felt GREAT! . While being cleared to have...

Hi guys, I've just come in from having a lovely dinner with my husband and our very good friend. We enjoyed Mexican food and a beer.... or two. I don't usually drink very much but I certainly enjoyed my beer tonight with dinner.
My question is: Is it ok to enjoy a beer with dinner every once in awhile? I can't remember if I should or shouldn't and quite frankly after the last two weeks of my life I really don't know that once in awhile will matter all that much! Anyway, I was thinking I...

My Husband's PM & Future Ablation

Hi,
I've been a member here for a long time; having had a PM almost 4 years now but haven't been on lately as I have been recovering from a revised total knee surgery.

After a walking stress test where his heart rate went to 153 in about a minute on the treadmill, my Cardiologist implanted my husband with a PM the next week. He did not turn it on yet as he is going to do an ablation 3 weeks from date of the implant. My hubby's heart rate goes from 48 to 70s and then to 98 or mo...

Lipitor vs Zocor vs etc

My prescription insurance limits me to a set amount per year. I'm already taking Plavix (stent) which is like $350 for a 90 day supply and need to continue. I've been taking Lipitor, also very expensive, although my cardiologist has said we could try Zocor (which has a generic equivalent) for a lot less money.

Has anyone noticed different side effects between Lipitor and Zocor? Any other relevant info?

Combo

I already have a pacemaker and my EP said that it won't be long that I will have to have an ICD also. He said something about a combo. Can the ICD take the job over for a pacemaker and do it's job also? Or is that a stupid question? Is the combo very big and heavy? I am a slim person and am dreading having one of these put in. Don't get me wrong, I understand and am thankful that there is a piece of machinery that will save my life, and for that I am thankful. I think it's more or less that I am...

Silly Question?!

If you have a dual chamber pm, does the lead to the ventricle pass through a valve, and if so, would this stop the valve closing properly?

For Cabga Patch

Well I saw the heart doc, and there was a long talk, and one issue was EJ factor, I just read your post on that, all my test were done by ecoh gram, and not one has ever been the same, and each one done by different person, from a 30 after heart attack , to an alleged 45-50 a couple months ago, of course I questioned that finding and the doctor ordered another test, to be determined to be 25-30, this makes me wonder who figures these numbers and how can one persons test be 45-50 and another 25-30...

Sanctuary

Hey Guys & Gals,

Have any of you seen the old commercial where the last child moved out of the house and the parents are standing in the doorway of the empty room envisioning all the things they can turn the room into. Well I am finally living that commercial! I know I should be feeling the empty nest syndrome ): be hey she is going on 24. It's time. So now I get to turn my bedroom back into the sanctuary that it use to be. No computers no t.v.'s ,nothing to distract me but my bed,an...

Severe weather in the South

There has been horrible weather this week in the south. Predicted flash flooding, torrential downpours, and possible tornados. All of this started after my ablation last week.
Dr. Andy must have realy made my right atrium angry because I had no idea that my irratic heart rhythm would cause such a stir in the south.
Now that my pacer was adjusted last night, I'm feeling a little bit better. Oddly enough....it's sunny out today.....

Ugly Scar Post PM Surgery

I had my third PM inserted on 19.3.09 and to my surprise I have the biggest lump just below my scar I think it is the lead sitting on top of the box. I am still quite bruised. Looking at my scar is making me feel very tearful and upset as it is "ugly". My chest now has 4 scars and this ugly lump that is about 1" long and the pacemaker box is extremely visible under my skin and shows through t-shirts. It is the worst of the 3. People I have shown are all quite shocked about how its looks,

New Pacemaker question

Hi everyone, My Husband had his pacemaker put in on Saint Patricks day. He is healing up pretty good. He can finally sleep without a thousand pillows and his arm doesn't hurt much anymore. Now the stitches are itching like crazy.

This morning he was brushing his teeth and his pace maker was kicking in like crazy he said. Also he feels it kick in when he drinks. Is it true that its doing this because he is kinda of holding his breath? Any ideas?

sorry if i mislead you

i recently posted a message stating that i had a demand pacer for 2 wks and that now the dr wants to do av ablation and be 100% paced. i think readers thought i had not been down the med road i was on 2 different beta blockers which made me feel like heck. however i was only on them for about 2 wks before he took me off them and put me on tikosyn which really kicked my butt not only in the way i felt but all the arrthymias it caused. i was told i would be taken off tikosyn once i agreed to a pm...

I know Saint Joseph's Heart and Vascular Institute does robotic-assisted epicardial lead placement and contact information can be found here:

http://www.stjosephsatlanta.org/center-for-robotic-surgery/heart/epicardial-lead-placement-robotic-surgery.html

I had an epicardial lead placement done (not robotic)and the surgery is not that bad. 5 days in the hospital and pretty sore afterwards.

If you have any qustions drop me a message and I'd be happy to try to ans...
