a newbee

hello everyone,

going in on 3/3/09 for a pacemaker, little history...I had an aortic valve and root replaced in june 2005, since then I have felt real great and really lousy. My shortness of breath was really starting to bother me so the doc put me on a holter moniter for 48 hours. Called last night and said my high rate was 77 and low was 32, so you get a pace makler real soon! I am 47 and in great health and good physical condition. When I work out (thanks to my athletic wife) my ra...

ICD Site Complications

I appreciate any suggestions you can provide on this matter. I have had my 2nd ICD (first one recalled after 6 mos.) for approximately 4 years. I had complications with this replacement as the first one was still quite new and shouldn't have been removed other than for the fact that it was recalled.

Although I was to have another subpectoral implant, I've had nothing but problems with a large portion of the device protruding out from my skin. Just recently, the scar area cracked...

AV Node Ablation Tomorrow

Hello everyone,

I've got my AV Node ablation tomorrow. I'll be glad when it's over and I'm a little nervous about it at the same time. Question for those of you who are pacemaker dependent already, will I notice a difference right away?

Just looking for a little reassurance. Before the big day.

Thanks,

Debbie

Using a mobile with a pacemaker

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, apologies if it's not.

I read in the booklet my cardiologist gave me that you should use a mobile on the opposite side to the PM. Is it actually likely to interfere with it if I don't? I have hearing problems in my right ear, and obviously the PM would be on my left side. Thanks for any help.

Low Blood Pressure

Does anyone here have hypotension, and if so, what kind of symptoms do you experience along with it? I believe my blood pressure has dropped a bit (it's always been low) and is causing the dizzy spells I sometimes get, both sitting down and standing up/walking. I've been healthier than usual recently, walking several miles a day on my treadmill, and eating very, very well. Can getting in better shape cause an already-low pressure to drop? My GP didn't seem too worried about it; she suggested tha...

I'm Officially a Pacer Chick

I finally got my PM Feb17th. I was in good spirits before the surgery, even asked if the Doctor could pull some strings and get me a Pink Sparkly PM. He was amused, however said no...what a bum! Surgery went well, although I was screaming bloody murder afterwards because of the pain and scared my surgeon quite a bit. Had some adverse effects from either the anesthesia or the pain meds they gave me after. Either way I spent most of the rest of the day vomiting. Everything is where it is sup...

Baseball protection

I have a 5 year old son who is going to start t-ball this year. As an infant he had open heart surgery and at 2 he had a pacemaker implanted on his left side just above his pectoral muscle. I have found a shirt that has a protective plate that will cover his heart but have had no luck finding anything to protect his pacemaker. I would really appreciate it if any parent out there has had the same situation and what they have done or bought to protect their child's pacemaker. Thanks for your help....

QOTW

Hey all! As you know, it's that time of the week again... QUOTE TIME!! Yeah!!!

"Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it."

And I say... BWAHAHAHA!!! Oh yeah, I made a typo - the White Tie Affair's song "Candle" does NOT go "I'm so tired of being sick and tired", rather, "I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired." I have to fix things lik...

Dual lead PM and twitching

Hi folks

Had a dual lead PM put in 3 months ago, having had a single lead PM for a number of years. Have since had some major twitching problems caused by the new second lead and had to have it switched off a month ago ( the 2nd lead that is ). Sometimes they are able to tweak the PM to prevent the twitching but that hasn't worked with me.
I was told they might have to open up the PM site again and try to relocate the second lead. I have had new valves, AV node ablated and now h...

for all of us... some things to remember:

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
So love the people who treat you right.
Love the ones who don't just because you can.
Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance,(and we all have) grab it with both hands.
If it changes your life, let it.
Kiss slowly.
Forgive quickly.
God never said life would be easy.
He just promised it would be worth it.

sometthing coming off the back of my PM

Hoping for some guidance here. I have a Medtronics Adapta pacemaker that was installed in August, '08. It is installed under my skin on tyop of my muscle.
Last Saturday I completed a marathon and afterwards noticed a strange feeling when feeling around my PM. It feels like a thin piece of plastic coming off the back of the pacemaker. I can feel the leads are atteched to this piece.
Does anyone have any ideas what this can be and how much of a problem this could be.
I would appr...

Exercise update

As some of you may have read I have been on a quest to regain some strength in my short chubby legs. I am (5' 2.75") I have been continually working on this task. I have been using the stepper, walking the chubby Pug, (dog) and staying busy. I haven't allowed myself to sit very long at any time. Today I also washed the car (the Porsche) and then went for a fast drive! Whoo Hoo, yes by myself.

I was just talking to my husband (he is engineering the train) and he says to me for the mill...

Anaesthetic

With reference to Petrolheads recent post and Electricfranks post which I agree with. I would like to make a few observations. Here in the UK you dont seem to get put under but are given a sedation dose plus the essential local needle injected anaesthetic. I found that the sedative dose given via cannular had no effect on me whatsoever. The local anaesthetic was inadequate and I felt the surgeons knife cutting painfully through my flesh. I pointed this out and was given some more local anaetheti...

what to expect in healing

I had a pacemaker with 2 leads implanted Jan 29 - have had a few episodes of pretty emphatic irregular heartbeats - mostly at night when retire but one during day - also feel tired, kind of shakey, no energy & every now and then some chest pain short lived thank goodness - thought by now would be feeling great - is it too soon for that? They checked pm and said all working as should be and the memory printout showed Atrial Flutter so at least they caught that part, but thought it would have sto...

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!
