Need NEW lead

Hi
I am 34. I have had my pacer from 1980(6ys old). I am not on top of the name and years of my pacers and leads as I was so young. To be honest I am not even sure how many leads I have had. However, the doctor has told me that one of my leads are old and needs to be changed. He says I do not need to extract this time(I will next time due to space) but not sure what putting in a new lead entails. Pacer was just replaced in 2005 so still have another 3-4yrs of that. Does anyone have...

ICD site tender

Well going on 2 months since my ICD implant and I'm still getting used to this. Does the heaviness ever go away? They used glue to sew my skin up,but the scar is very long. I'm wondering the average size of an ICD insion. My scar is about 5 inches straight across my chest. It sticks out like a sore thumb, and is just as sore. I'm doing good moving my arm around. I work in business so I'm glad that I can still support my family, without haveing to take much time off from work.
I know that it...

Picture

Blake

Let me ask a couple of questions first. Where do new posted pic's go (to the last page or?) and do they show up right after posting or does someone have to OK them first?

I followed the instructions at the bottom of the page chose to borwse button, selected the picture and hit the add photo block - at the top of the page it had a "your photo has been added" block - but it doesn't show up in the gallery.

Thanks for trying to help!

The importance of Medic-Alert

Yesterday I stood there carrying my basket in a line full of carts. The sign above read ten items or less. I glanced down and counted my four items. I think maybe the store should re-word the sign to:
“If you have more items than your fingers- you’re in the wrong line.”
Maybe then people would learn how to count. Better yet, maybe the clerk should just pick ten items at random from people’s overflowing carts.
“Okay which ten items would you like me to scan today?”
So the cl...

Hard time with feeling my PM

Hello everyone. I haven't been on for a while but here goes. I've had my St. Judes PM for about 7 months now and for the most part things have been ok. I had what I would call severe pvc's prior to getting my PM (had 3rd degree heart block). After my surgery the pvc's actually calmed down. For whatever reason in the past few weeks the pvc's have returned with a vengence and I am also really aware of my PM. It is almost like it has moved or something. Something just does not feel right. My heart...

Checkup Nightmares...

Has anyone ever had just a really horrible checkup for their PM?

Usually, I don't mind so much my experiences at the doctor's office, but every now and then I'll have a bad experience that causes me o dread my next visit.

One time in particularly happened just a few years ago, before my replacement surgery while I was still in high school. I had that particular PM for about 13 years at that point and it really needed to e replaced, so I was having very regular visits. Usua...

significant others ??

I was wondering how everyone's partners deal with your pacemaker, defibrillator, or your sickness.

In sickness and in health right?
It's an adjustment for all of us.
I feel badly for mine- for having to put up with me.

With Valentine's Day around the corner, I was wondering what ya'll's thoughts were.

It's me again...

Hello again. I just posted a message yesterday about HARD heartbeats. Well, last night while trying to relax with my husband I got to feeling really bad. I checked my b/p which was okay but then my pulse was a different story altogether. It was a low 43!! I wasn't for sure what my setting was on my pacemaker but I knew it wasn't 40 or so. I called the clinic this morning and they told me it was set for 60 for the low and 120 for the high. I am waiting for them to call back and tell me what to do...

battery life?

I got my medtronic kappa 700 in 1999. My pacemaker began a constant pace a few months ago. I was wondering if anybody can tell me how long I have before I will have to get the battery replaced? Or how can you tell if and when the battery is completely dead? Or a website where I can find this information would be helpful... Thanks!!!

General exercise

I had my PM implanted in October 2008 for Sick Sinus Syndrome. Before I had the PM implanted I was running around 5 miles every other day. Since then I really have not been exercising on a regular basis but I have continued to exercise. In the past Month I have been more regular with my exercise, running around 3-4 miles every other day (heart rate while running average:140-150 high:175). Since October I have been feeling great (no chest pains, not light-headed, not faint). However in the...

Naughty messages?

Well, not sure what has been going on in our Happy Club, but raising an eyebrow to why someone would want to write an abusive(?) message on here.

We are all here for the same reasons, support, laughter, empathy, sympathy - the odd box of Kleenex thrown through cyber-space to comfort our fellow Pacer Chicks and Pacer Boys, cracking open the odd bottle of wine in Chat.... etc etc....

We all know how serious things get in our lives now, and how upset or 'angry' we get.........

First Check Up-Adjusted settings..

I had pm surgery almost 2 wks ago. They checked my pm and printed out the history and told me it only worked 1% of the time...the pm is just "watching".
The NP adjusted the setting to lower the voltage to save battery life by 3 yrs.
Since the appt, my upper chest every once in a while feels kinda heavy or tight. Could it just be from the "testing" today when the spead up my heart and checked things out?

Hope I sleep tonight...I've been anxious since surgery, knowing I have...

Horray for Blake

Blake: I just want to say Thank you for removing that post. I have visited other sites that are suppose to "support" and for the very reason that you removed the post is why I have not be active in sites like Daily strength. As you are well aware, when you as a person are struck by an illness it is comforting to know that there are others out here that want true support not just a place to so call Vent your anger. Thanks again and I am sure I speak for many. Kathy

Skipping beats

Hi everyone!

I've had my pacemaker for almost 6 years (when I was 15) and haven't had any problems but in the last 4 months or so I've been feeling my heart skipping beats alot. It happens almost every day and it's pretty uncomfortable. I'm really active and run all the time but it keeps happening. Last time I felt this I told my doctor and he said it was normal for it to beat irregularly sometimes and when I had my check up it didn't show anything weird. But it's been happening a lo...
