pacemaker removal

Has anyone had a pacemaker lead removed or replaced? My husband is 33 and has had his pacer for 18 months and already has broken a lead. He has a single lead pacer and is told now that after having an ablation the pacer is not needed. Rather than replacing it we are having it removed.

Secret to long marriage

The secret to a lasting Italian marriage......

At Saint Mary's Catholic Church in New York City, they have a weekly husband's marriage seminar. At the session last week, the Priest asked Mario, who was approaching his 50th wedding anniversary, to take a few minutes and share some insight into how he had managed to stay married to the same woman all these years.

Mario replied to the assembled husbands, 'Wella, I've a-tried to treat-a her nicea, spenda da money on her...

Power Tool Interference

My father received a Boston Scientific pacemaker model S603 in October. He is progressing well.

A question arose about the use of battery powered or cordless tools. He wants to be sure there will be no interference with the following or similar tools:

-Riding mower. Engine in center back. Pacemaker battery on left. Appears to be at least 12 inches from pacemaker.
-Battery powered, cordless tools.
-Chain saw. Used on right side with battery of

Meditronic Defibulator

Hi everyone!

I just joined this site and wish to ask a question.

In the beginning, my mom took Phen-fen for many years. Her heart now pumps at 23% capacity. Her "attorneys" settled with Wyeth for a low amount. What a joke! My mom had to file Bankruptcy because of this nonsense.
To top this off my mom had a Meditronic Defibulator put in and then it was recalled due to faulty problems. My mom had another put in. She does have an attorney for this and Meditronic has agr...

Meds

I was on toprol xl for about 5 years but about 4 months ago or so it stopped working for me so i was taking atenolol then i had my ablation and i went back to my EP on tuesday for a follow up and he wanted me to stop my atenolol and start taking toprol again. I tried to explain that it stopped working for me and he insisted that it would work since i had the ablation. So my dumb butt listened to him and within a couple of hours my heart was pounding, I had a migrane, dizzy( im very symptamatic)...

Over sensing??

Hi I'm new to the club and even though I have a medical background it helps to talk to others in my boat.
I have had a rather odd occurance. I went to England 2 weeks post placement to recoup. I was picked up at the airport and driven 45 minutes in little car, on windy roads with a manual transmission. By the time we arrived I was sure I was headed back to the ER. Cramp in my chest and short of breath. When I got out of the car, all symtoms were gone in about 10 minutes. They never happened...

ATTN: AV node ablation people

I'm sorry ya'll, please bear with me and all of my silly questions.
How long does the AV Node ablation take?
Is it as long as a "standard" ablation procedure?
Do they have to do a mapping first?

I don't understand exactly how ablating the AV node eliminates symptoms of flutter. It just doesn't make sense to me.
You still have flutter, a-fib, and palpitations, but because they went in and cut the circuit......you don't feel them anymore?

Someone please he...

Update to when amiodarone fails

Hi everyone...Ok they added mexiletine to Bobs amiodarone and it made him deathly sick, woosy, confused. So that has been stopped. Friday he is going to have a doppler echo to see if he is a candidate for the third lead on his ICD. As of now he is on 400mg of amio a day and no more shocks, knock wood, but we don't know how long he can continue the 400 mg daily, amio is toxic in some people. Thats where we are at right now. He is feeling better, mexiletine did a number on him....Marilu

New pm tomorrow

Well my 7 year old Guidant gets replaced tomorrow. My hospital has switched to Medtronic. I was told they got a better contract, meaning lower price. Not to worry says the doc. The mew one will be better and more modern than the old one. So around 10:30 AM out goes the old and in goes the new. Speaking of new, I'm a newbie here. Nice site and wish I had found it sooner. I'm a cancer survivor too and enjoy a similar site for that. Its great to be able to share info and support with so many other...

Going for a PET scan next Weds

I have been told to be there at 7:00am, and bring a good book because it takes 5 hours to complete.

I hope this will tell me if one area of my heart is truly necrotic or just dormant. If dormant, that makes me a bypass candidate.

Wish me luck,

Stumpy.

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
