Update to when amiodarone fails
Hi everyone...Ok they added mexiletine to Bobs amiodarone and it made him deathly sick, woosy, confused. So that has been stopped. Friday he is going to have a doppler echo to see if he is a candidate for the third lead on his ICD. As of now he is on 400mg of amio a day and no more shocks, knock wood, but we don't know how long he can continue the 400 mg daily, amio is toxic in some people. Thats where we are at right now. He is feeling better, mexiletine did a number on him....Marilu

Well my 7 year old Guidant gets replaced tomorrow. My hospital has switched to Medtronic. I was told they got a better contract, meaning lower price. Not to worry says the doc. The mew one will be better and more modern than the old one. So around 10:30 AM out goes the old and in goes the new. Speaking of new, I'm a newbie here. Nice site and wish I had found it sooner. I'm a cancer survivor too and enjoy a similar site for that. Its great to be able to share info and support with so many other...

I have ICD and take heart medicine Digitek but I can't tolerate a therapeutic level so doc is talking about an ablasion has anyone had this and how are you doing? All the internet info is scary and doesnt recommend it.
thanks
Beth
Going for a PET scan next Weds
I have been told to be there at 7:00am, and bring a good book because it takes 5 hours to complete.
I hope this will tell me if one area of my heart is truly necrotic or just dormant. If dormant, that makes me a bypass candidate.
Wish me luck,
Stumpy.

My ICD was implanted three years ago. I felt very secure knowing it was there to help me. At first I was concerned about what I might feel if the defibrillator fired. But as time went by I became even more comfortable with the idea that I had this wonderful device to help me. About a month ago however, the defibirillator fired when I was asleep. After I got to the ER, on my doctor's instructions, the device continued to fire 23 times. I was given additional medical to help regulate my heart r...

Hi, I am new to this forum I just wanted to see if anyone could help me out. My mom has a pacemaker and was diagnosed with lung cancer. Her doctors told her they could not treat her with chemo or anything else because of the pacemaker, I was wondering if anyone had any info about this or could point me in the right direction of what I shoud do to get her treated. I am located in new york and am trying to get her into Sloan Kettering in the mean time. If anyone has any advice please let me know...

Hi everyone,
I got a pacemaker yesterday (St Jude 5826), and spotted this site on the web this evening. I'm definitely a newbie at all of this - it's been a huge rollercoaster in the past 2 months.
I'm 42, totally healthy, never have had to take any medicines long-term or spend a night in the hospital.
December 2 I had a car wreck. I'm driving along, and the next thing I know I'm standing in the highway median with a guy who pulled me out of my car before it burn...

Hello All.... I had my pacemaker put in last Monday (Finally!). I had a post on here about local or general anistectics awhile ago with lots of responses and I decided to go local and was knocked out so good I don't remember a thing. It has only been 9 days since surgery and I am feeling great (VERY painful on day 3 - 5 though). I can't readily get ahold of my surgeon though and I just wanted to see what others were told about their incision care after surgery. I really want to start putting...

Are there any of you out there that had a pacer and then transitioned to 100% paced after AV Node ablation.
Can you tell a difference, or no?
I'm trying really hard to weigh my pros and cons, because I know once it's done- there's no going back.
It's a tough decision to be 100% paced, but I know that I can't keep going like I've been going. It's really a catch 22.
Any comments would be appreciated greatly. Going to see my EP in Atlanta soon.

A big thanks to all for great communications in the past. Frank, Tracey,Patch and Smitty..... Met with cardio and complained of h/r not exceeding 118(with a heart monitor and a pulse monitor on the treadmill at my club) which was leading to syncope when playing tennis. Upon any exertion the symptoms would start. Doc says rate response will override my "natural pace maker" and they will not compete. The setting for my r/r is 150..........
Being confused, I called Medtronic and spoke wit...
do i really need it????
OK..im 21 i have genetic long qt"s type 1 and recently went to my doctor cause of some pain i was having thinking my icd was just pacing extra hard, and my nurse told me the icd is just sitting there....sitting there? i mean im not anxious for a shock or anything but she then explained to me that i will not receive pacing until my heart rate goes up to 100 and that i will not get socked until it goes up to 200 and the usual they say and as it monitors goes only up to 80-90 when im walking althou...
