Hi,
I just signed on. I was a little nervous about signing up for this support group. Never done anything like this but have been reading postings for a while. I have a twelve you old boy and it was also a world wind. He went to the hospital for what they thought was an asthma attack. I was then told his EKG looked like that of an 80 year old man. Anyway. He had a pacemaker put in October 30. They are telling me that the wire they left in the socket for growth has dropped and is laying on h...

the bandaide came off last night, healing well, but it's sooo big!
first checkup tomorrow
Well, tomorrow is my first checkup with my Dr. since getting my PM. I assume he will do some adjustments on this hunk of Titanium in my chest. I dont know how they do the adjustment but Im kind of looking forward to it. Hopefully I wont be as tired after he makes the changes. Ive found that I have more energy when I get home from work since the PM. But I also find that I feel like taking a nap more often than I used to, since getting the PM. I dont know of it is because of the PM or maybe d...

I had my pm "installed" in 2005.
During my last office PM check, I was told my insurance will no longer cover my PM checks at the same frequency I have had so far.
So, my question to you all is, what is the typical frequency for a PM check (both office and phone) ?

I don't have a PM yet (I have to call the doctor to schedule the procedure), but have had attrial fib and/or flutter for at least two years. I am a relatively active person and know that my heart sometimes goes crazy while working out because I see it in my heart rate monitor (prior to being diagnosed I attributed the fluctuations in the monitor to "interference"). I have to admit that I do not feel, at all, when my heart rate goes from 70 to 150 and back. I do not feel when my heart rate dro...

Hello, I am new to the group. I am 39 years old and will be getting a PM in the next few weeks. I gave birth to my first child 12 weeks ago and, during my time in the hospital, my heart rate averaged 30 bpm (I did not feel dizzy, light headed or anything out of the ordinary).
I have known that I have a low heart rate for about 2 years, when my irregular heart beat was discovered/diagnosed. At the time I had an ablation and was told that there are several areas of my heart with cr...

Hello Everyone my name is Lisa and i am 29 years old. I am new to the site and wanted to introduce myself and had a couple questions for anyone out there who can answer them. I had my pacemaker put in about 3 & 1/2 years ago because my second ablation got to close to my natural pacemaker is my understanding from what the doc told me. My tachycardia came back after my second ablation and now i am scheduled for my 3rd ablation on jan 5th but i am terrified because of the last ablation. Im worried...

The following message was emailed to the Club for posting.
We purchased a winter snow mobile jacket for Derek and didn’t notice the tag stated:
"Warning this jacket contains neodynium magnets that may cause interference with artificial pacemaker devices"
Apparently there are many jackets now that are using magnets to close over the zippers. Please forward this message to all of the pacemaker people, kids and families.

Thank you everyone who has posted!
It is 3:40 a.m and I am still wide awake. I will see the nurse on Monday for the 10 day follow up. I will tell her about the insomnia and how I felt during surgery.
Anxiety could be a problem, I have said I did not want to go through this surgery ever again.
The Medtronics person did change the PM settings the morning after the surgery, that could be preventing me from getting sleep.
Thank you all for the great i...

Thanks to all who responded. I had a pacer put in 2 years ago for severe bradycardia (less than 20 BPM), significant sinus pauses, and 4 episodes of asytole in less than 1 hour. I have a little trouble with dizziness still, sometimes, but was a little surprised by the sudden drops in BP. They did say the pacemaker was keeping my heart rate from dropping too low, so that is why I was wondering about syncope. I just know it (the drop in BP) is a horrible feeling while it is happening (as I am s...

Hi
I'm 89 years old and just got a pacemaker. I've weighed 151 lbs for the longest time, but since my implant i've lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks. I know that gaining is a sign of congestive heart failure (i'm on lasix) but is weight loss a sign that because of my pacemaker i'm losing water weight, a good thing, or is there trouble ahead. Don't worry, i've got an appt. with my cardio but couldn't wait for input, :-)
If I sound too hip for an 89 yr old it's because i've got help from my kids...

Can anyone tell me what causes syncope? Is it the heartbeat slowing way down?....is it a drop in blood pressure?....does having a pacemaker mean you should not pass out anymore?...when you pass out, does your heart stop beating during that time? Sorry....had an episode last night with a sudden drop in blood pressure. (Supposedly a medication reaction issue) just some curiosity questions. Thanks.....and Happy Holidays to all!

Hi I posted a message a little while ago as felt very alone with my baby who had a pacemaker fitted when she was 5 days old as she was diagnosed with complete heart block while I was pregnant. I got a wonderful response which made me feel a lot more postitive and not so alone anymore. I was just wondering if there was any children/teenagers with a PM who could share thier personal views and comments about living with a pacemaker it would be great to hear from you. I am hoping as my little girl...

I am a 49 year old female diagnosed with a 1st degree AV block since I was 17. I've lived a normal life for the last 32 years with nary a problem. In June I went through the gauntlet of tests including the event moniter which showed my heart rate dropped to 30 at 10:00 am in the morning (I was taking a nap). Right before Thanksgiving I was getting a flu shot at my husband's work and I passed out. My heart stopped, breathing stopped and I had a tiny seizure. I came back within seconds by mys...
