Fail, Fail. Next?

Well, it's the weekend, and time for medical emergencies to happen.

Got a pacer June 3, and it healed perfectly for 3 months. Paper thin scar, and fit was pretty good. One day, some clear blisters appeared near the scar. One blister became bean sized, and burst. My cardio freaked, and ripped out my pacer. Implanted another one Sep 8th on the right side. It was miserable having a wound on each shoulder, and still is.

Now,,, you guessed it, the new wound is acting up. When t...

3 days after implant

Hi had a pacemaker/defibulator put in tuesday. I know these are going to be general questions and i know they may vary but im still going to ask.
does it always stick out like it does, how long does the pain last. i also feel like im short of breath, dr tells me to take it easy and drink lots of water, they think i may have had reaction to pain meds in hospital, which they did make me sick to my stomache.
the only thing im worried about right now is the shortness of breath it actually...

Reply to Pete´s message - Pacemaker replacement in patients who already have AV node ablation

Hi Pete,

I read you posting, which you have posted quite long ago, but it could still be interested to you.

I haven´t had exactly normal PM replacement, but I think that it will be quite similar to that, what I had ;-)...

... so I have got the third degree AV block by ablation as well. But when I was on my last (fifth) ablation, they destroyed the AV node and fitted in just external pacemaker - the last ablation took 8 hours and the doctor told me that he will...

Thumping heart beat

My pacer is in the ERI mode now and I have been having this thumping heart beats when I go to bed. Is this something caused by the pacer firing or is it my own heart doing it?
Anyone ever had those experience? Will it go away on it's own and why is it happening as I never felt it before?
Since the pacer is in the ERI mode now, won't it use more energy by doing this?

Question

Hey there ya'll,
Before I ask my doctor I thought I'd ask ya'll to see if ya'll have had this as well. I'm one month post implant. Everything is going well. My life is slowly getting back to normal, and I'm walking 2-3 miles a day. The only clincher is that I've been getting horrible night sweats. I usually stay on the cold side, and have never had this problem before. Is it possible that my pacer is causing this problem. I wonder if it's keeping me revved up too much while I'm sleeping. Wh...

ICD Check

I had a ICD check on Tuesday. It should last until 2011. The next ICD I get should be the bi-ventricular one.

My cardiologist still keeps talking about trying to improve my condition and suggested a number of scenarios: different meds, altering the device pacing, and/or adding another lead into the bottom left side of her heart. Right now the lowest I pace is 90 bpm. It would be interesting to see what the lowest is for other people.

If they decide to put in another lead...

Question regarding Angelie's posting

I too have been have these crazy hot flashes/night sweats at night and also some during the day. I have had my pm since July 3/08 but the sweats did not start until about a month ago. Now Im getting them all the time. I'm pretty sure it is just a woman thing but your post was the second one that I've read about night sweats etc. Is there a possibility that it is pm related? It sounds kind of hokey but you never know I guess. Anyone else out there get the night sweats /hot flashes. Im a 48 year o...

EP wants to turn off rate response

During the first 2 weeks after PM implant I felt my heart speed up periodically, in addition I had frequent palpitations. It felt un natural so I became alarmed. I called my EP who insisted I wear the 24 hr holter. WHile wearing the holter I recorded 60
palpitations within the 24 hr period. I turned in the Holter on a Friday and called my General Practitioner who got me in immediately. He gave me a beta blocker and the palpitations went awa within a day.

On Monday my EP called...

6wks post-op Corroded Leads!

Hello,
I want to share my story and see if there is anyone else out there with a similar situation. PM implanted 7/31/08 St. Jude Medical PM not sure which lead manufacturer. Leads were a blend of two things ( unclear at this point but I believe they were a mixture actually combined silicone with polyeurethane). I have been in excruiating pain since unit was installed.
At 2.5 weeks went back to EP to have things checked out. He asked why I waited so long. I should not have been in...

Guess we are the lucky ones.

Hi,

had my PM put in about 4 months ago now, but still get the odd day when I get depressed and want to rip the thing out. I know that's quite normal and many people go through it.

I was having one of those days yesterday until I got home from work, and received a call from my sister to let me know one of my nephews has testicular cancer. He is 21. He is having his op today (18th) to try and remove it.

Suddenly my problems seemed VERY insignificant, and I feel gu...

Pacemaker

Have just found out that after passing out 3 times they want to fit a Pacemaker in MY heart! Well I was stunned, only old people have those dont they! I know I am 62, but like to think of myself as a young fit 62. So I looked up on webiste about Pacemakers and came across your site. I can breathe a sigh of relief when reading your letters, not only has it helped me, but most of you so young 20's and 30's. Quite looking forward to having it fitted now.
Thanks all you Pacemaker Buddies...

PM Phone Check

Hi, All, I was diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome 8 years ago and had my second Medtronic pacemaker implanted January 2008. At this point, I'm doing phone checks every 2 months with the pacemaker center at my hospital. The problem is, these pacemaker checks are the only reason I need to have a home telephone. I'd much rather just have a cell phone and save $50/month, but I've been told the checks have to be done on a land line. Anyone have any experience with this or suggestions? Any comments w...

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
